Buy or Sell Randy Orton WWE Return Rumors, Bron Breakker WrestleMania 41 Feud, More

Chris RolingMar 1, 2025

Right when it seemed like the pro wrestling rumor mill couldn’t get any wilder ahead of WrestleMania, a guy named The Rock walked back into the picture.

Granted, nobody knows exactly what Rock might do in the coming weeks or at ‘Mania itself. But it’s enough to send things into a fever pitch across the pro wrestling fandom.

Other rumors beyond speculation around Rock abound, too. This week alone, we’ve got rumblings on major names like Becky Lynch, what superstars might make big returns for ‘Mania and even whispers about how title defenses might go down at the major event.

Keep in mind all of that keeps zipping around as WWE puts on Elimination Chamber.

To help fans keep pace with the buzz, here’s a look at the most notable rumors making the rounds and whether they should buy or sell on each.

Randy Orton return?

SmackDown

The Rumor

Randy Orton is a name that continues to float out there ahead of ‘Mania. According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), while WWE wants him at the big event, there are no creative plans just yet.

Reaction

This late in the game, Orton getting involved in a feud might feel rushed. Then again, this is the guy with the RKO, so hitting one of those can be the lone thing that sets up a feud and ‘Mania match, right?

Buy or Sell?

Buy. Of course WWE wants Orton involved at the biggest show of the year. While some fans might’ve dreamed about an Orton vs. Cody Rhodes feud, the top of the card is too stacked right now—but seeing him involved in anything at all is a nice thing to have after his recent absence due to injury.

Becky Lynch update?

The Rumor

Speaking of big names who continue to pop up in ‘Mania speculation, arguably none is bigger than Becky Lynch. According to Sapp (h/t Ortman), she’s “still awaiting creative” while otherwise signed and healthy.

Reaction

Speculation has run wild essentially since earlier in 2024 about Lynch’s health and contract status. Both of those things have seemingly been solved for a while now, though, especially when it comes to the contract. It never felt like she was a threat to leave WWE.

Buy or Sell?

While a little strange, this is a buy. The top of the women’s card is absolutely stacked right now and WWE had to fit in the return of Charlotte Flair, too. Ideally, for all involved, including fans, Lynch has a role at ‘Mania. But it’s not a shock that she isn’t in a headline spot right now.

Bron Breakker 'Mania plans?

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

The Rumor

WWE keeps teasing interesting ‘Mania feuds and matches for Intercontinental champion Bron Breakker. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), this is very much by design—the idea for the title defense is to have a multi-man match.

Reaction

WWE loves, loves its multi-wrestler title matches at ‘Mania. Which is a little weird, considering the show has already been split into two nights. But the company enjoys an embarrassment of riches when it comes to having a super-deep roster, so they have to fit as many stars as possible in as many ways as possible.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. This is a small step for Breakker on the way to much bigger things. The teased feuds with AJ Styles, Penta and Finn Bálor have been fantastic. This would certainly be one way to make sure they all get some ‘Mania shine.

SmackDown Runtime Drama

4 of 5
SmackDown

The Rumor

The subject of show runtimes keeps coming up as a controversial topic. The latest, courtesy of WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), is that some in WWE aren’t happy with SmackDown’s three-hour length, citing a dip in quality.

Reaction

That noise was the collective pro wrestling fandom saying No kidding. The three-hour runtime, whether on SmackDown or Raw, has always been a drag. A wildly talented, massive roster simply hasn’t equated to engaging three-hour romps of television.

Buy or Sell?

Easiest buy of the week. The quality dips when WWE’s shows go this long. Maybe the company doesn’t care all that much—TV deals are big money, and fans who don’t watch can get the portions of the shows they want from social media posts. But there’s zero doubt some within the company and potentially wrestlers themselves aren’t all that thrilled with it.

Vince McMahon Resigns From W.W.E.'s Parent Board Amid Sexual Assault Inquiry

The Rumor

Vince McMahon’s name, understandably, keeps coming up around pro wrestling. According to Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer (h/t Ortman), word from around him is that Vince has no plans to start a new wrestling company.

Reaction

This one is a conversation for obvious reasons but also because, apparently, the people around Vince expect that a new startup wouldn’t be able to outpace AEW in the sport right now. As has been mentioned plenty of times now, he still has plans to start an entertainment company.

Buy or Sell?

Hard, hard sell. Vince is wrestling. It’s what he knows and it’s impossible to think that if he started up a company, he wouldn’t believe he could at least grab second place. Maybe he couldn’t considering AEW’s hot streak right now, but he could get plenty of talent for a roster and knows the business better than anyone else.
