Video: Shedeur Sanders Says He Would Take Less Money in Contract to Win a Super Bowl

Paul KasabianFeb 18, 2025

Former Colorado quarterback and NFL draft prospect Shedeur Sanders said on his 2Legendary podcast that he would take less money to win a Super Bowl ring at the next level.

Sanders made the remarks in response to a fan question (15:34 mark).

"Yeah, I'd take less money to win a ring," Sanders began.

"'Cause it gets to a certain point to where you know that, you gotta know what you're living for and what are your goals and what's your desires and money you know can't really accomplish everything you want to do. You gotta have purpose for everything. So sometimes, you know, you could have more money but be in a worse situation, that's not always what better. It gotta be a equal, it gotta be a fine line between the two."

Sanders is almost assuredly going to be a high first-round draft pick in April, and his deal will go on the first-round rookie scale. In theory, he could take a more team- and cap-friendly extension to help out his NFL squad a bit down the road.

Sanders certainly has good perspective here, in that money can't accomplish everything in the pros. For example, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is on a five-year, $125 million deal, and his team is very interested in offering him a lucrative extension.

However, Garrett's issued a trade request and made his "desire to win" clear amid Cleveland's struggles capped by a 3-14 season.

Regardless, Sanders is going to get paid off the bat, and rightfully so given his impressive 2024 season coupled with teams' dire need for quarterbacks.

The latest B/R NFL Scouting Department mock draft has Sanders going third overall to the New York Giants. He's ranked second overall on the B/R big board among quarterbacks, behind only Miami's Cam Ward.

This year's NFL draft is set to begin April 25 in Green Bay's Lambeau Field.
