Report: Geraldo Perdomo, Diamondbacks Agree to 4-Year, $45M Contract Extension
Geraldo Perdomo is sticking with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the long term.
The shortstop has agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $45 million, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal, which starts in 2026, buys out up to three years of free agency, according to Passan.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that the club option would bring the deal up to $57 million over five years and the extension also includes escalators that could take it to $72 million.
Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic noted the extension will pay Perdomo $5 million in 2026, $8 million in 2027, $11 million in 2028 and $13 million in 2029. The $15 million club option can be bought out for $3 million, according to Passan. The deal also includes a $5 million signing bonus
Perdomo, who was in his first year of arbitration eligibility in 2025, will earn $2.55 million this season.
The 25-year-old made his major league debut in 2021 with the Diamondbacks, though he played just 11 games that season. He's since been a fixture of Arizona's roster and was a part of the team's World Series run in 2023.
That same season, Perdomo was named an All-Star. He hit .246/.353/.359, recording a career-high 100 hits and 47 RBI.
In 2024, Perdomo suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee in April, sidelining him for more than two months. He made his return in June and managed to stay healthy the rest of the year, slashing .273/.344/.374 with 92 hits and and 37 RBI.
The Diamondbacks failed to make the postseason in a competitive NL West division a season ago but still had their most wins since 2017. Now, having secured their defensive star to a long-term deal, Arizona will look to continue growing and get back to the playoffs in 2025.
