Braves' Ronald Acuña Jr. Says He's 90-95% Recovered from ACL Tear amid Injury Rehab

Jack MurrayFeb 14, 2025

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. is nearly fully healthy for the 2025 season.

The 27-year-old told reporters that he estimates that his left knee is at "90-95 percent" after he tore his ACL in May 2024 on a stolen base attempt.

"I feel great," Acuña told reporters. "When they tell me I need to be there that day, I'll be there."

He also continued by saying that he expects his knee to be "more stable" than his right knee was after tearing that ACL in 2021.

Acuña hit .250/.351/.365 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 49 games prior to suffering the injury. This came after he won the NL MVP award in 2023 when he hit .337/.416/.596 with 41 home runs and 106 RBIs in 159 games. He is a four-time All-Star, and his health is a major factor for Atlanta's contention chances.

The Braves made the playoffs in a wild-card spot in 2024 after going 89-73 and fell to the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card Series. This came without Acuña and starting pitcher Spencer Strider, who are both set to return in 2025.

Braves general manager Alex Anthopolous said that Acuña will not play during spring training and that he will hopefully serve as a designated hitter in April before heading back to the outfield. However, Acuña's estimate for his knee shows that he is feeling confident and should be a major contributor to Atlanta in 2025.
