Kendrick Lamar's NFL Super Bowl 59 Halftime Show Draws Record 133.5M Viewers
The Super Bowl LIX halftime show starring Kendrick Lamar broke a viewership record.
Roc Nation said 133.5 million viewers tuned in for the performance, which is slightly above the initial projection of 131.2 million and surpasses the viewership from the Super Bowl XXVII halftime show with Michael Jackson.
Fox said Monday an average of 126 million people watched the Super Bowl, which is the highest rating ever for the event.
The Super Bowl consistently draws the best television rating every year, and the NFL as a whole continues to grab the attention of Americans like no other entity. Forty-five of the top 100 most-watched programs in 2024 were NFL games.
Even put into the wider context, Lamar overtaking Jackson's record is a testament to how highly anticipated his performance was.
The 37-year-old has never been more relevant. His beef with Drake was one of the biggest stories in pop culture, and he's a little over a week removed from winning five Grammys, including "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year."
The feud with Drake was what drew everyone in for the Super Bowl. We were all waiting to see how Lamar would escalate things, or in this case take a victory lap because he's the undisputed winner by now.
