Derrick Williams Signs 2-Year, $10 Million Deal with Knicks

Alec NathanJun 30, 2015

Following a year-and-a-half stay with the Sacramento Kings, Derrick Williams has reportedly landed with his third NBA team after agreeing to sign a two-year, $10 million deal with the Knicks, per ESPN's Chris Broussard.

The Kings, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers were also interested in Williams, according to Broussard.

Williams has yet to live up to his No. 2 overall pick billing after getting selected behind Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving in the 2011 NBA draft, but that clearly hasn't stopped some high-profile suitors from pursuing the 24-year-old combo forward.

Williams officially became an unrestricted free agent when the Kings declined his qualifying offer worth just over $4 million for the 2015-16 season, according to CBS Sports Radio's Grant Napear

Williams can still operate as a serviceable bench body for teams in need of frontcourt depth. In 74 appearances (six starts) last season, Williams averaged 8.3 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting a career-best 44.7 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from three.

He may not be particularly efficient around the rim or as a jump-shooter, but Williams is the kind of multipositional presence who could be a bargain-signing for the Knicks as they look for players to operate out of the triangle offense.
