Caron Butler Reportedly Signs with Sacramento Kings
Longtime NBA veteran Caron Butler has reportedly decided to join the Sacramento Kings, per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Shams Charania of RealGM.com reported on June 28 that Butler was expected to draw interest from three of last year's playoff teams when free agents could begin negotiating on July 1.
"After his release from the Milwaukee Bucks before July 1, Caron Butler has emerged as a candidate for the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs, a league source told RealGM," Charania wrote.
In addition to the Bulls, Clippers and Spurs, Charania also reported that the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers were expected to inquire.
The 35-year-old Butler spent last season with the Detroit Pistons, averaging a career-low 5.9 points in 78 games. He was traded to Milwaukee as part of a three-player deal on June 11 and later waived to become a free agent.
Even though Butler's shooting skills have diminished in recent years—he has shot over 41 percent once in the last four years—he's been a solid scorer off the bench. Prior to last season, the former first-round pick had averaged at least 10 points per game in 10 straight seasons.
