Terry Rozier to Celtics: Twitter Reacts as PG Is Selected in 2015 NBA Draft

Joseph ZuckerJun 25, 2015

For the second year in a row, the Boston Celtics selected a point guard in the first round of the NBA draft. In 2014, the franchise took Marcus Smart. Thursday night, it opted for Terry Rozier, drafting the Louisville PG 16th overall.

The point guard position wasn't exactly a pressing concern for the Celtics entering draft night, which led Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal to question Boston's decision to go with Rozier:

NBC Sports' Raphielle Johnson wonders if one or more dominoes are about to fall for the Celtics:

Rozier only played a shade under 19 minutes during his first year with the Cardinals and really emerged in Year 2, when he averaged 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and three assists a game. Somewhat concerning, though, he only shot 41.1 percent from the field, including 30.6 percent from deep.

Scout.com's Evan Daniels believes the numbers might not tell the full story:

Mike Schmitz of Draft Express and Kevin Brockway of GatorSports.com still thought Rozier might have been a reach in the middle of the first round:

Whether or not Rozier's shooting improves will determine how his NBA career unfolds.

Teams aren't exactly clamoring for point guards who can consistently knock down jumpers. But CBS Sports' Sam Vecenie tweeted in May Rozier had similarities to reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams if he can become a better shooter.

Should the Celtics stick with Rozier, they'd have a solid point guard around whom to build. He may not grow into an All-Star-caliber player down the line, but he should easily be a starting option/sixth man in the future.
