J.D. Martinez Records 2nd 3-Home Run Game at New Yankee Stadium
Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez hit three home runs in Sunday's 12-4 win over the New York Yankees, joining current New York Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson (2012) as the only players to record a three-homer game at the new Yankee Stadium, per MLB Stat of the Day.
While Granderson had his big day as a member of the Bronx Bombers, Martinez became the first player since Bo Jackson in 1990 to record three homers and six RBI on the road against the Yankees, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Martinez didn't waste any time getting started Sunday afternoon, launching a two-run blast to left-center field off of Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka in the top of the first inning.

The 27-year-old outfielder struck out leading off the third inning, then hit a solo shot off of Tanaka to start the top of the fifth.
Martinez capped off his big day with a three-run homer off of Yankees reliever Danny Burawa in the sixth inning, before flying out in the eighth inning in his final at-bat.
Martinez now has 16 home runs, 41 RBI and 39 runs to go along with a .275/.333/.516 batting line, putting him on pace for 38 homers, 96 RBI and 92 runs, all of which would easily be career-best marks.
A bit of a late bloomer, he set career-high marks in all three categories in his first season with the Tigers last year, following a largely unproductive three-year stint with the Houston Astros to start his career.
Per FanGraphs.com, Martinez piled up 4.0 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) in just 123 games last year, and he's already at 1.8 WAR this season.
Despite receiving poor marks for his work in right field, the right-handed slugger enters Monday tied for 54th among all position players in WAR, according to FanGraphs' measurement.
