According to 247Sports' composite rankings, Towns is the No. 23 small forward and No. 117 player overall in the 2016 recruiting class. The Northland High School (Columbus, Ohio) star was on the Ohio State Buckeyes' and Michigan Wolverines' radars but opted instead for the Crimson.

Corey Albertson of Prep Hoops Ohio believes Amaker's style of basketball will also suit Towns well:
The Crimson still have a ways to go to become serious Final Four threats, but securing the commitment of Towns represents continued progress forward.
The prep star also ensures that Harvard will remain the team to beat in the Ivy League in 2016 and beyond.
