Jaylen Fisher, a 4-star point guard prospect out of Arlington, Tennessee, declared his intentions to play college basketball for TCU on Wednesday.

Fisher took to Twitter to make the announcement:

Reggie Rankin of ESPN first reported the news of the Bolton High School product's commitment to the Horned Frogs.

Fisher is regarded by 247Sports' composite rankings as the 13th-best recruit at his position in the class of 2016, the No. 64 overall prospect and the second-rated player from his state.

Listed at 6'2" and 170 pounds, the prodigious floor general has great basketball instincts but does need to add muscle to become more of a physical force.

For someone whose game is predicated on driving into the lane and creating offense for himself and others, Fisher stands to benefit from packing on some pounds. It will also help him diversify as a scorer.

As is the case with many point guards at this age, there's plenty of room for Fisher to improve as a jump-shooter. If he's able to do that, defenses will have to respect his perimeter game, which will only set up what he can already do well off the bounce.

What Fisher does have is the basketball IQ to be a contributor for TCU even as a true freshman. His smarts serve him well on the defensive end also. However, Fisher isn't the most gifted athlete and will probably need at least a year to develop before he becomes full-time starting material.

With a full season to observe, gain valuable experience with some minutes, work on his outside shot and bulk up a bit, the Horned Frogs would create a great blueprint to position Fisher for success in the years to come.

Despite a gaudy recruiting label, Fisher isn't the type of player who will break out and be a one-and-done NBA draftee. That's not necessarily a bad thing for him in the long run, and TCU should welcome the chance to foster Fisher's growth as he embarks on a quest to realize his promising potential.

The ability to land Fisher indubitably stemmed from the credibility brought to TCU by its hiring of former Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon, who led the Panthers to 11 NCAA tournament appearances in 13 seasons.

After finishing with a 12-21 record this past season, the Horned Frogs have to feel fortunate to land one of the country's better recruits in Fisher. His presence alone figures to help TCU become more competitive in the Big 12 in 2016-17.
