Warriors Break NBA Record for 3-Pointers Made in a Single Postseason
The Golden State Warriors sunk 12 of their 30 three-point attempts in Thursday's 103-82 Game 4 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, giving them an NBA single-postseason record of 215 three-pointers made during the 2015 playoffs, per Sportsnet Stats.
Golden State entered Thursday's contest with 203 three-pointers made during this year's playoffs, putting them even with last season's San Antonio Spurs for the league record.
It didn't take long for the Warriors to take sole possession of the record, as guard Stephen Curry (who else?) drained a three-pointer with nine minutes and 36 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Curry's trey ended a 7-0 run by Cleveland to start the game, and the Warriors would never look back, taking a 31-24 lead by the end of the opening quarter.
Up 54-42 at halftime, Golden State withstood a third-quarter rally by the Cavs, who cut the lead to three points on two separate occasions in the penultimate frame.
The Warriors went on to outscore Cleveland 27-12 in the final quarter, evening the series at two games apiece, with the 21-point margin of victory matching the fourth-largest by a road team in NBA Finals history, per Sportsnet Stats.
Should the series ultimately go to seven games, Golden State may extend the three-pointers record to a level that will be rather difficult for future teams to match.
Of course, given the likelihood that the Warriors will make some deep playoff runs in the coming years, it's not hard to imagine the team breaking its own record in 2016 or 2017.
