WWE Superstar of the Week for May 30

The Doctor Chris MuellerMay 30, 2015

WWE usually slows down a little after WrestleMania since the buildup is always so stressful, but that has not been the case in 2015.

WrestleMania 31 took place on March 29, which is almost two months ago to the day. In that time we have seen Extreme Rules, Payback, a King of the Ring special and NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable.

On top of that, we still have the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view Sunday and Money in the Bank two weeks later.

To say WWE has been busy lately is a huge understatement.

During that time, many Superstars and Divas have stepped up to keep things running smoothly and deliver some great performances. Before we get to the Superstar of the Week, let's take a look at a few people who came close.

Honorable Mention: Stardust and Stephen Amell

Stephen Amell is credited for starting the recent television superhero revolution with Arrow, but more importantly, he is a huge fan of WWE. He has campaigned to host Raw in the past, but it looks like he might get to do something even better.

Amell was sitting ringside for Raw when he had a close call with Stardust. The painted goofball got in the Emerald Archer's face and taunted him for a moment, but Amell just stood up and stared him down.

For fans of Arrow and WWE, this is a collision of two worlds we never thought we would see. WWE Superstars are basically the closest thing to superheroes as it is, which makes all this even more entertaining.

Amell might not have the name recognition of some of the other celebrities WWE has worked with, but his status as a masked vigilante has earned him a devoted following.

If any celebrity might be capable of actually putting on a good match, it would be Amell. His role requires him to do stunts and learn fight choreography, so he has the physical skills to do the job.

Stardust is one of the more technically sound wrestlers on the roster, which makes him the perfect opponent for a guy who has no experience whatsoever. It's all speculation at this point, but seeing Oliver Queen battle Stardust might make up for what some feel was a weak season of Arrow.

Honorable Mention: The Group Formerly Known as The Shield

Ever since they debuted at Survivor Series 2012, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns have been integral to WWE programming.

These three men don't even have three years on the main roster under their belts, and yet they're already dominating all the storylines in the main event scene.

All of them are completely different in just about every way, but they somehow find a way to work together better than anyone else in the company.

Whether they are allies or opponents, when Rollins, Ambrose and Reigns are involved in the same segment, you know it's going to be good.

Raw and SmackDown focused on the feud between Rollins and Ambrose this week, with Reigns helping Ambrose even the odds every step of the way.

Throwing them into the Elimination Chamber PPV in at the last minute was an odd choice, but with a main event like Ambrose vs. Rollins and two chamber matches, it could be one of the more entertaining shows of 2015.

It's beginning to feel like we're entering a new era in WWE, and these three men may end up helping to bring change to a company that was losing momentum for a long time.

Superstar of the Week for May 30: Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens has made a bigger impact in a shorter amount of time than anyone else in recent history. Let's run through what he has accomplished thus far.

He debuted December 11 at TakeOver: R Evolution and immediately became part of the NXT title scene by attacking Sami Zayn moments after his emotional championship celebration.

Two months later to the day at TakeOver: Rival, Owens won the NXT Championship by beating Zayn so bad the ref was forced to stop the match.

Less than six months after his NXT debut, he is set to face John Cena in his first match on the main roster at Elimination Chamber.

The ascension of Owens has been a fun ride for those who watched him toil away on the indy scene for the last 15 years, and it doesn't look like his push is slowing down anytime soon.

Owens appeared on Raw, NXT and SmackDown this week, officially becoming the busiest Superstar in the company over the past seven days.

His Raw appearance saw him attack Cena with his trademark powerbomb yet again. It was the second week in a row where the NXT champion dropped Cena, and that is something you see rarely.

Two nights later on NXT, Owens made an example out of Solomon Crowe in a one-sided match and had another confrontation with Samoa Joe.

On the following night on SmackDown, Owens gave his first real interview on the main roster. He was his usual grumpy and entertaining self, telling everyone that he was going to prove he was better than Cena at Elimination Chamber.

It appears that management isn't wasting any time strapping Owens to a rocket and pushing him to the stars. At just 31 years old, he has plenty of years left to be a valuable asset, and there is no doubt he will be a force to be reckoned with.

If he is booked to defeat Cena at Elimination Chamber, he will almost certainly become a permanent member of the main roster. The fact that this match is not for the United States Championship is a good sign that he may indeed win.

Using Owens as part of both the NXT and main rosters will help bring even more attention to the developmental brand, which has already became such a big hit with WWE fans.

Two years ago, Kevin Steen was the last guy anybody expected the WWE to sign and immediately push this hard, but there is no denying that he is talented enough to justify the decision.

Sunday's match with Cena might just be the most important of Owens' career. Hopefully, he does what we know he is capable of doing and lives up to all the hype.

What do you think? Was Kevin Owens the Superstar of the Week? Who would you pick? Thanks for reading, and follow me on Twitter @BR_Doctor.
