Dan Jennings Named Marlins Manager

The Marlins formally announced Jennings as their new manager, via the team's Twitter account.
Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel provided comments from Jennings:
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman added more from the press conference:
Both CBS Sports' Jon Heyman and Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal originally reported the decision for Jennings to take on the position:
ESPN's Keith Law hoped the news meant the Marlins were evaluating worthy candidates rather than becoming fixated on one person:
USA Today's Bob Nightengale revealed Sunday night that Jeff Conine would not be named the next manager after he initially reported that all signs pointed to Conine.
Predicting what team owner Jeffrey Loria will do is almost impossible. He's burned through nine managers since taking control of the franchise in 2002. Included on that list are Joe Girardi, who won a World Series with the New York Yankees in 2009, and Fredi Gonzalez, who won an average of 93 games in his first three years with the Atlanta Braves.
Most will agree that Redmond didn't deserve to get the ax, even after Miami's 16-21 start to the 2015 season. Last year's 77-85 record combined with Giancarlo Stanton's return from injury brought optimism to the Marlins, but expectations might have been unreasonably high.
Regardless, Loria is confident that a different manager can move the franchise forward.
With the Washington Nationals finding their footing, it would appear the Marlins' best hope for the postseason is securing one of the two wild-card spots in the National League. But even that may be a bridge too far for the team.
According to Baseball Prospectus, Miami has just 11.6 percent odds of making the playoffs. Jennings has a tall task ahead.
