Gerrard Becomes Liverpool's 2nd-Leading Premier League Scorer

Bleacher Report MilestonesMay 11, 2015

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard netted the 119th Premier League goal of his career during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea, moving past Michael Owen for sole possession of second place on the Reds' all-time Premier League scoring list, per Infostrada Sports.

The 34-year-old headed in an equalizer in the 44th minute, but it wasn't quite enough to keep Liverpool's Champions League hopes alive, as the club now needs a near-impossible six-point and 14-goal swing over the season's final two matches to overtake Manchester United for fourth place in the table.

Set to join the L.A. Galaxy in Major League Soccer this summer, Gerrard trails only Robbie Fowler (128 goals) on Liverpool's all-time Premier League scoring list.

While it's possible he could rejoin the Reds at some point later in his career, Gerrard still probably wouldn't net another nine goals to match Fowler in first place.

He will leave Liverpool with one notable record, as his 40 goals in European competition are tops in club history, stretching back to before the Premier League era, per Liverpool's official website.

While Fowler's 128 goals may stand for quite some time as the club record in the Premier League, Roger Hunt scored 245 goals for Liverpool in domestic league play, giving him nearly twice as many as Fowler.

For those needing a refresher, the Premier League was founded in February 1992, with the first season beginning in August of that same year.
