Heuerman to Miss Rookie Season
Saturday, May 9
According to Andrew Mason of DenverBroncos.com, the team expects Heuerman to miss the entire 2015 season.
"I feel terrible for Jeff, and this is a very unfortunate situation," said Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak. "Jeff was going to be a big part of our team this year, and he's still going to be a big part of our team and organization in the future."
Mason provided the circumstances under which Heuerman went down:
Heuerman's injury came a day after Dante Fowler Jr. tore his ACL at the Jacksonville Jaguars' rookie minicamp. The talented pass-rusher is also expected to be out for the season.
CBS Sports' Dane Brugler feels that the former Ohio State Buckeye is becoming increasingly more snakebit:
Matt Miller of Bleacher Report listed Heuerman as the No. 3 tight end in the 2015 draft class, and he considers the rookie a future starter. In his four years at Ohio State, Heuerman had 52 receptions, 792 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Broncos likely would have used Heuerman to help cover for the departure of Julius Thomas. While Heuerman is nowhere near the athlete that Thomas is, he's a better blocker and solid pass-catcher.
This injury is a major setback for 2015, but as long as Heuerman can make a full recovery, he should be in position to contribute to the Denver offense in 2016.
