OG Trenton Brown to 49ers: Full Draft-Pick Breakdown
The San Francisco 49ers continued to use their late-round 2015 NFL draft picks to reinforce the depth along their offensive line.
One round after selecting Boston College tackle Ian Silberman, general manager Trent Baalke took a flier on Florida O-lineman Trenton Brown with the first of three picks in Round 7. Baalke subsequently traded away the 49ers' one of those picks (No. 246) to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for another pick in 2016.
Brown is a raw prospect. According to Dane Brugler of CBS Sports, the former Gators tackle started only 11 games over his two-year collegiate career.

Brugler also notes that Brown will likely shift to the guard position at the NFL level, citing his ability to use "his natural anchor and power combo to stonewall rushers and move bodies in the run game."
Despite the inexperience, Brown did have some noteworthy statistics in the run-blocking game. According to Jeff Deeney of Pro Football Focus, Brown boasted the second-highest run-blocking grade among right guards in the SEC last season:
Despite the loss of running back Frank Gore during the offseason, the 49ers could easily return to a run-first offense with backs Carlos Hyde, Kendall Hunter and newly acquired Reggie Bush carrying significant loads.
Brown's abilities in this aspect make him a worthy flier for the 49ers.
Perhaps the most intriguing part of Brown's game is his size. The Florida prospect measures in at 6'8" and 355 pounds. According to Eric Branch of SFGate.com, Brown also had the longest wingspan at 87 ⅜".
Baalke has targeted big-armed prospects before, and Brown fits that bill.
As a seventh-round pick, seeing Brown on the active roster shouldn't be expected any time soon. But the 49ers could utilize some developmental depth in 2015 and beyond.

Part of this rationale is that right guard Alex Boone enters a contract year this season. The 49ers didn't draft a high-profile lineman in 2015, but they will have options on their current roster. Either Brandon Thomas or Marcus Martin are O-line options and could fill the void if Boone departs.
Subsequently, Brown might be able to emerge as a depth option with size on his side.
