Malcom Brown to Patriots: Twitter Reacts as DT Is Selected in 2015 NFL Draft
The reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots got strong value with their first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft on Thursday, selecting Texas defensive tackle Malcom Brown No. 32 overall.
This marks the second year in a row New England has opted to shore up the defensive trenches, adding to the choice of Florida product Dominique Easley from last year.
Twitter was mostly favorable in reacting to the latest pick from Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Co.
Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald felt the Patriots got quite a steal:
Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones is excited to see Brown taking his talents to Foxborough:
Former Texas head coach Mack Brown reached out to Malcom Brown after hearing the news:
ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss added his take on the skills Brown brings to the gridiron:
Doug Kyed of NESN noted one similarity between Brown and departed longtime Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork:
CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco gave out a specific grade for New England's first-round selection:
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport summarized how many seemed to feel about Brown still being on the board so late in the opening round:
ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. had Brown rated as the 12th-best player in the entire draft. The fact that New England was able to wait until the very bottom of Round 1 has to strike a bit of fear into the rest of the league, because the current Lombardi Trophy holders seem to have gotten a great prospect.
Brown measured at 6'2" and 319 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine. His combination of size and athleticism should allow him to contribute to the Pats' rotation right away.
With 6.5 sacks in 2014, per CFBStats.com, Brown proved that he can be a viable pass-rusher from the inside. New England fans have to be excited to see what they have with Brown and Easley in the coming years.
