Dean Ambrose Is in His Element as WWE's Unpredictable Rebel
Dean Ambrose has nothing to really do right now. He worked a wild Chicago Street Fight against Luke Harper at WWE's Extreme Rules, which may or may not have ended their rivalry. His King of the Ring match against Sheamus the following night on Raw was interrupted by Dolph Ziggler, which may or may not spark a feud between the two men.
And Ambrose is not exactly in the hunt for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Yet none of that really matters; he's doing well right where he is. Ambrose is in his element as WWE's unpredictable rebel.
For most WWE Superstars, simply being on TV is not enough. A solid rivalry against a big-money opponent with a championship at stake; that is the ultimate goal for any guy in the locker room. But Ambrose is a different kind of Superstar.

The Lunatic Fringe is in great shape right now and that's thanks to his gimmick, which is the rebel without a cause. It's a character that he completely owns; one that gets over despite what he's doing or who he's working.
The idea that a guy like Ambrose can exist in the world of WWE, where success is often judged by fans according to direction, is novel indeed. Most of the time, it's about where a Superstar is going, how he looks on the way and what he will do when he gets there. It's a conversation that includes stars like Roman Reigns, Rusev and even Dolph Ziggler.
Each man is discussed and debated relentlessly, as the future of WWE is always the primary point in the end. For Ambrose, however, tomorrow is of little consequence; today is all that matters.
Ambrose does what he wants when he wants, and no one is capable of controlling him. He's less concerned with what he will do in the future as he is the amount of chaos he can cause today. There is very little reasoning in his actions, virtually no predicting when he will appear and almost no way to know what he will do on any given night.
It seems that, like Sting, the only thing for sure about Ambrose is that nothing's for sure.
The fact is Ambrose is a rebel. He goes against the grain every time out, and he can always be depended upon to buck the system at every turn. He is the maverick Superstar of WWE, the one guy who's always ready to dive headfirst into a fight he can't win.
And he does it all for the fun of it.
Therein lies the best part about Ambrose: He's entertaining. Fans may not know exactly what to expect when he comes through the curtain, but they know he will always give them their money's worth when he does.
Much like Bray Wyatt before him, Ambrose is becoming an attraction. Fans seem less interested in what the future holds than they are about what he will do right now. From his promos to his work in the ring, Ambrose is becoming must-see TV.
He's obviously having fun with it, and that translates to the crowds he performs in front of. Fans have an easier time relating to guys who seem genuinely happy to do what they love, and Ambrose is one of those guys.
And when it comes to championships or working the main event in WWE, both are entirely possible for Ambrose to achieve. He's so good at what he does and gets over so easily that fans should readily accept him with gold around his waist and being featured in the last match every week on TV. Just because he's not there at the moment does not mean he will not get there soon.
He and Seth Rollins were the main event of Hell in a Cell back in October of 2014, which means WWE recognizes his ability to perform at that level. And considering Rollins is now the champ, there is always the possibility the two men could mix it up once again.
With Daniel Bryan on the shelf due to injury, the Intercontinental Championship could be up for grabs, and that is a belt Ambrose could definitely carry. He may even pursue John Cena once again for the United States title.
The potential for Ambrose to succeed on the main event scene is there, and his supporters are anxiously waiting for that day to come. But in the meantime, they're being entertained by Ambrose as he's doing a great job in the role he now has.
The future will always be there for him, but today he's having fun with it, and that's more than many guys around him can say. Ambrose has a unique niche in WWE, and no one can pull it off the way he does.
