Why Christian Ponder Will Bring a Championship Back To Florida State.
Up until last season, Florida State fans had to have been thinking, when are we ever going to get a break at quarterback? Chris Rix, Wyatt Sexton, Xavier "the savior" Lee and Drew Weatherford all failed to impress.
Drew Weatherford had the look of the next great quarterback after leading Florida State to an ACC Championship his freshman season. He beat out the highly touted Xavier Lee for the starting spot.
Three years later, he was the laughing stock of the campus. Someone that had the reputation of caring more about politics than his football career. He never had the poise or the leadership.
It was last season when the face lift of the offense began. Christian Ponder, a redshirt sophomore beat out Drew Weatherford for the starting quarterback spot. Something that was a long time coming.
What happened next was Christian Ponder led the Seminoles to a 9-4 record, it's first respectable record in three years. While he had plenty of help along the way, Ponder showed a poise towards the end of the season, and if the bowl game against Wisconsin is any indication as to what the future holds for this young star, I would say the future looks bright.
Ponder resumes his duties this season, and looks to have a big one. He has some new weapons to use and some familiar faces, but with a year as a starter under his belt, he should perform to the high standards that not only Jimbo Fisher has set for him, but the fans as well.
While I'm making early predictions, here's another one. I believe Christian Ponder has the savvy and the poise to bring back a National Championship to Florida State. I'm not saying that it's going to happen this year, the Noles have a tough road ahead of them, but in 2010 Florida State will resume it's reign in the National spotlight.
In 2010, the Florida State Seminoles led by Christian Ponder, will have the potential to win the National Championship, and I'm saying that it's going to happen.
