Dana White: Please Bring Back the Man Who Fought Fedor!
Yes, Mr. White, you have every right to laugh at this request, especially in light of who is making the plea.
I have not only been your most avid critic of late, I have criticized the same fighter I am now begging you to bring back.
Miracles do happen, and I am one who knows that it is true.
There are many reasons why this could turn into a miraculous situation.
First let me clarify exactly what I am asking you to do for me.
Bring back big Tim Sylvia to fight Brock Lesnar.
You do not have many heavyweights who have had more of a weight advantage on their opponent than Brock Lesnar has.
Yet Tim Sylvia was one of your fighters who may have weighed just as much as Brock Lesnar does when he now enters the ring.
Since it is not likely that you will institute a special Super weight class for the Likes of your new golden boy Brock, why not bring back one of your former fighters who had the weight and build to compete with him.
True, I was just as critical of Tim for putting opponents up against the cage and lying on them.
Likewise I was loathe to watch Tim lay on top of opponents on the mat.
Even worse was watching those who mounted Tim flail at him trying to find his face with their fists to score some ground and pound on the Maine-iac. I hated that!
Cheering for the poor height challenged Jeff Monson left me disheartened and hoarse and left Jeff looking like a cartoon character come to life as he tried in vein to score points on the huge giant during their one-sided fight. Infuriatingly absurd!
For almost every fight he appeared in I cheered against Tim Sylvia and prayed that he would fail to win.
But guess what? He seldom did. At least not often enough to satisfy my lust for him to be beaten soundly.
Then, after you finally made me happy by cutting him loose, the big man ended up fighting my hero Fedor Emelianenko. What an unforeseen blow to my ego!
No. I never for a moment thought that Tim would beat my Fedor.
My favorite Russian emperor dispatched big Tim in record time and left me shedding happy tears. What joy I felt as the humble Fedor had the WAMMA belt placed around his waist! What a sense of vindication!
Now, however, I am wishing that Tim Sylvia could enter the ring against your "favorite big man of the moment" Brock Lesnar. You couldn't get Fedor to fight Brock, but a simple phone call would get you Tim.
Why? Ok, you are allowed to ask me that, afterall, it is your organization and your money that could allow my wish to come to fruition.
1. Money! I believe there are as many people out in MMA land who would buy a PPV or attend the fight (especially in Michigan), to see Tim get his comeuppance at the hands of the mighty Brock as there have been to see him fight any of his other opponents.
Tim does have a certain pedigree with the UFC as a HW belt holder on more than one occasion and for this deserves the opportunity.
2. Tim is a physical equal of Brock. Few people could debate this point.
3. Tim has the years of experience and the bravery to accept such a chance at redemption in the UFC octagon.
4. It could be a hell of a fight between two truly big men. People like such match-ups.
5. Tim has time on his hands now and could really prepare for this fight.
I could list many more reasons, but I think I have made my point.
The public would enjoy this fight for so many reasons that I think you owe it to the fans. Just forget the fact that one of your most vocal critics mentioned the idea and pass it off as your own. I promise I won't say a word.
And if miracles do happen...Tim Sylvia who I once hated may beat Brock and become my new champion!
