Rob Gronkowski Discusses Possible WWE Career, Tom Brady's 1st Pitch and More

Matt FitzgeraldApr 15, 2015

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski won his first career Super Bowl and was enjoying part of his offseason promoting the new edition of the Guitar Hero video game on Wednesday.

Jimmy Traina of FoxSports.com was at the scene to interview Gronkowski about an array of topics.

Gronkowski professed love for the new Guitar Hero but created waves by discussing a potential pro wrestling career in the WWE and Tom Brady's wayward first pitch for the Boston Red Sox's home opener.

Here's what Gronkowski had to say about future WWE involvement, where he'd be open to being a wrestler, manager or occupying any and all types of roles:

"

My boy Mojo Rawley is in the WWE's NXT and he just got back from an injury, so he's about to start amping it up again and he's doing a great job. He's my boy and he's killing it. I love watching him. We were just chilling and we cut a promo together and we had a blast. I can definitely see something in the future. Hopefully Mojo Rawley starts wrestling a lot and starts doing what he has to do and makes it to 'Monday Night Raw,' if my boy is there, I'm there for an appearance.

"

The promo referred to in Gronkowski's quote surfaced days ago and went viral, marketing the gridiron star and Mojo Rawley as a tag team.

Known for his outlandish and outgoing personality, Gronkowski could definitely pursue the WWE at some point in his life. He is just 25 years old and figures to have plenty of football ahead of him before he takes on pro wrestling for any prolonged period of time.

About the first pitch Brady threw at Fenway Park, the legendary quarterback's friendly target poked a bit of fun at the inaccurate delivery.

"I don't know how he didn't get it over the plate," said Gronkowski. "He might have done that on purpose. I'm gonna ask him. You gotta at least get it to the catcher without a bounce."

As long as Brady continues to deliver the pigskin on target to Gronkowski, the two shouldn't have any issues keeping the Patriots' precise passing game from operating at a high level in 2015 and beyond.

Gronkowski also discussed his favorite activity of the offseason so far, which he did during the Super Bowl victory parade.

"The duck-boat ride at the (Patriots' Super Bowl) parade," said Gronkowski. "I'm not lying. That was a great experience. I had a blast doing it and it was so awesome to see that many fans come together and celebrate and go crazy at one time."

Whatever Gronkowski's future holds outside of football, WWE or otherwise, his 2014 campaign was an encouraging one. Despite a history of health issues, including a torn ACL and MCL, Gronkowski played 15 games and had 12 of his 82 receptions go for touchdowns.

That bodes well as New England figures to lean heavily on Gronkowski as a primary offensive weapon for years to come.

For the Patriots to have realistic hopes of repeating as champions and successfully defending the Lombardi Trophy, they'll need Gronkowski and the players on his side of the ball performing at their best.

With the 2015 draft still on the horizon, defense has to be a priority for coach Bill Belichick as he attempts to retool the roster. The Patriots have suffered several key losses this offseason, most notably lockdown cornerback Darrelle Revis.

New England's defense may take a significant step back, making it all the more important for Gronkowski and Co. to light up the scoreboard. As much as Gronkowski seems to deviate from Belichick's "Patriot Way," his talent and production when it counts allow him to thrive for the NFL's model, winning organization.
