Adam WellsApr 3, 2015

On the heels of the Final Four and with the possibility of a perfect season still hanging in the balance, Kentucky head coach John Calipari has been named the 2014-15 Associated Press Coach of the Year.

Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio tweeted out a picture of the trophy Calipari will receive with his name engraved on it:

In a season with many standout coaching performances, including fellow Final Four participants like Bo Ryan and Mike Krzyzewski, Calipari's efforts are a cut above. Kentucky is two wins away from becoming the first men's Division I team to go 40-0.

Despite the mounting pressure, Calipari has been able to manage the many personalities and talents on his roster. One of his best messages to the Wildcats was given to SportsCenter, via Twitter:

It's easy to say Calipari wins because he gets the best players, but this year has proved that it takes a special coach to create the atmosphere for them to play together. He's done masterful work so far and is close to making history.

Even though Calipari is likely to deflect credit for this honor, he's earned it. This is the first time he's won AP Coach of the Year, and it could be the start of a big weekend for the Wildcats. Win or lose, the veteran coach is going to make sure no one leaves the floor second-guessing themselves.
