The Minnesota Timberwolves Release 'Rubio Kart' Promo Video
The Minnesota Timberwolves are trying to focus on the positives right now.
They have a young team with developing players, a potential superstar in Andrew Wiggins and a shot at another lottery pick after this biohazard of a season comes to an end.
Another thing Minnesota sometimes has is a talented guard named Ricky Rubio, who does what he can to boost morale and slings pretty passes when he's not benched with an injury.
The Timberwolves don't want to dwell on the injury part and would much prefer to think about Rubio's funny name.
"Rubio...sounds like 'Mario.' Let's do something with that."
This realization might've been the inspiration for "Rubio Kart," a promotional video Minnesota played during a break in Monday night's 104-84 dismantling at the hands of the Utah Jazz.
The video has Rubio, Wiggins and Nikola Pekovic facing off in a Mario Kart 64-style race through downtown Minneapolis. It's incredibly well done, and I can scarcely fathom the hours Minnesota's video staff put into producing and polishing this briefest bit of joy for its bedraggled fans.
"Rubio Kart" looks like something I'd want to play, and I only assume Kevin Garnett wasn't allowed as a character option because he would eat the other racers as fuel—or because development for this promo has been in the works long before he was brought back to Minnesota in February.
In any case, stay strong, Timberwolves fans. One day you'll reach the top of the podium.
Dan is on Twitter. He would've tried Gold Medal Park.
