NIT 2015: Bracket, Schedule and Players to Watch

Brian MaziqueMar 28, 2015

Just two days after the NCAA tournament field is trimmed down to the Final Four, the semifinals of the National Invitational Tournament will begin at Madison Square Garden in New York.

It's clear the NIT selection committee did a good job seeding the teams. The semifinals consist of a pair of No. 1 and No. 2 seeds. Here's what's left of the bracket, as well as the schedule for the final three games of the tournament.

Chasson Randle

With just 11 points, Chasson Randle will become the Stanford Cardinal's all-time leading scorer, passing Todd Lichti. Considering he's averaging 19.3 points per game this season, it would appear he has an excellent chance to break the record.

In his last four games, Randle is averaging 22.7 points per game, and that includes a 35-point explosion against Rhode Island on Sunday. Randle is finishing up his collegiate career in style. His ability to score in bunches might also be catching the eye of NBA scouts. He's a scoring point guard who might be a good fit as a instant-offense guy off the bench.

Trey Freeman

The moment Trey Freeman's desperation three-point heave went off the glass and through the net against the Murray State Racers on Wednesday night, the junior solidified himself as an Old Dominion Monarchs legend.

The Virginian-Pilot agrees.

The three broke a 69-69 tie at the buzzer and propelled Old Dominion into the NIT semifinals.

Freeman has been getting buckets all season for ODU. He's leading the team in scoring with a points-per-game average of 17. He shook off a scoreless performance on Monday against the Illinois State Redbirds when he was 0-of-5 from the field.

When he matches up with Randle on Tuesday, it should be an interesting battle between two of the best scoring guards in the country.

Will Cummings

When it comes to dynamic lead guards remaining in the NIT, we can't leave out the Temple Owls' Will Cummings. The senior's red-hot shooting has helped propel Temple to this point in the tournament.

Cummings has made seven of 12 three-point attempts, and he's a perfect 17-of-17 from the free-throw line. While Cummings' point totals have gone from 30 to 21 and 15 in the NIT, his assists have risen each game from one to four to six.

He finds a way to be effective and, most importantly, to lead his team.
