NIT 2015: Updated Bracket, Full Schedule, Live-Stream Info and Picks

Carl LittleMar 28, 2015

Most of the nation's eyes are trained on the NCAA tournament and for good reason.

But whatever you're in, you try to win.

That is the approach that the final four teams in the NIT are taking. They are set to square off March 31 in New York City.

The tournament's smaller profile hasn't meant smaller action. Each remaining team took markedly different paths to Madison Square Garden. Temple romped its way there; Miami overcame an 18-point deficit. Stanford staved off a late attack, while a banked, three-point heave at the buzzer punched Old Dominion's ticket.

The semifinal matches should deliver even more excitement, as No. 1 Temple takes on No. 2 Miami first, and then it's No. 1 Old Dominion against No. 2 Stanford.

Tuesday's Predictions

No. 1 Temple vs. No. 2 Miami

Temple was the first team to be left out of the NCAA tournament, so it's really not surprising that the Philadelphia school has come this far. While their defense has been their calling card, the Owls have strengthened their offensive game as of late. They averaged just 64.8 points per game during the regular season, but that average has spiked to 80 during the NIT.

Quenton DeCosey had 21 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, and Will Cummings added 15 points in the Owls' lopsided victory over Louisiana Tech. For the second straight game, Temple never trailed. Cummings has scored 66 points in his team's three tournament wins.

It will be no small task for Miami to knock Temple off its quest for a third NIT title, but Miami has the firepower. Many also thought the Hurricanes deserved a spot in the NCAA tournament, including ESPN's Dick Vitale on 560 WQAM (via CBS Miami), and Miami didn't disappoint Tuesday when it rallied from 18 points down to beat Richmond.

Sheldon McClellan scored 16 points for Miami, including the game-tying three-pointer and go-ahead jumper in the last two minutes.

Miami holds the opposition to about 63 points per game on defense, and it's been averaging nearly that much during the tournament. The Hurricanes will have to hold Temple in that area if they hope for a chance to win.

Prediction: Temple 71, Miami 67

No. 1 Old Dominion vs. No. 2 Stanford

There's no Cinderella in this semifinal either. Stanford won the NIT four years ago, and CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein thought before the tournament field was settled on Old Dominion might be able to sneak in:

So who will win this game is really a toss-up. Old Dominion isn't doing much differently from what it did during the regular season. And that's a good thing. The Monarchs have won nine of their last 10, and Trey Freeman, who hit the winning 30-foot heave just before the buzzer to beat Murray State Wednesday, appears finally recovered from an injured ankle. He finished with 25 points in that game.

Stanford held off Vanderbilt Tuesday, thanks largely to a season-high 26 points from Anthony Brown. Chasson Randle, the team's leading scorer this season, chipped in 16.

Randle, who moved into second place on Stanford's career scoring list, was a freshman when Stanford last won the NIT. Now he's returning to Madison Square Garden as a senior. A victory over Old Dominion and then one more in the championship would be a great way to finish off a fantastic college career.

Prediction: Stanford 68, Old Dominion 62
