Miami Heat vs. Toronto Raptors: Live Score, Highlights and Reaction
Despite entering Friday night having lost nine of their last 10 contests, the Toronto Raptors—without Jonas Valanciunas—beat the Miami Heat at home, snapping a four-game losing streak. The win marked Toronto's first over Miami since January of 2010.
Both teams came out with stifling defensive efforts in the opening quarter. However, while Toronto's was maintained, Miami's slowly crumbled over the course of the game, giving the Raptors the opportunity to pull away.
Kyle Lowry led the way for Toronto with 19 points. He also added eight rebounds, eight steals and seven assists, filling up the entire scoreboard as he posted a team-high plus-19.
DeMar DeRozan added 18 but struggled from the field (3-of-12 FG). However, he was in full attack mode from the start and went 12-of-13 from the free throw line.
Greivis Vasquez, Amir Johnson and Lou Williams notched 12, 13 and 14 points respectively. No other Raptor scored in double figures, but Terrence Ross posted nine points, hitting three crucial threes as Toronto pulled away.
For Miami, Dwyane Wade led with 25 points, breathing life into Miami's offense in the closing minutes though their run to the end the game was ultimately too little, too late.
Goran Dragic went 8-of-17, scoring 18 and dishing out five assists. In his first game back from suspension, Hassan Whiteside scored nine and grabbed 12 rebounds. Michael Beasley posted 11 off the bench.
As a whole, it was an ugly game characterized by poor shooting numbers and rampant turnovers. Still, Toronto pulled through with the victory, putting them back on the winning track after their post-All-Star collapse. Now tied for third in the Eastern Conference, they'll look to carry this momentum into Sunday's contest against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Miami, who dropped to ninth in the East, will look to re-enter the playoff picture on Monday when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers.
