Daily Fantasy College Basketball 2015: DraftKings Bargain Picks for March 14

Rob GoldbergMar 14, 2015

With the conference tournaments wrapping up, only the top college basketball teams are in action to create an interesting set of daily fantasy contests.

Saturday's games will feature fewer individual stars taking over on bad teams, which will likely lead to lower overall fantasy scores. This presents a great opportunity to take advantage of some bargain players capable of helping your team.

Here is a look at some of the top bargain options from March 14.

Markus Kennedy, SMU ($6,500)

SMU struggled to start the season without Markus Kennedy and even after he returned to the lineup, it took a while before the junior was 100 percent. However, it appears he has been at his best lately.

Over the last three games, Kennedy is averaging 16.3 points and 7.3 rebounds, giving the Mustangs a legitimate force in the low post. He has been more aggressive with the ball, and he is getting himself to the free-throw line to help his production even more.

After three different Memphis forwards finished with at least 13 points and seven rebounds against Temple, Kennedy can provide this at a minimum and likely exceed it against the Owls. For this price, there are few safer options on the board.

Trey Lyles, Kentucky ($5,600)

On a team with countless contributors, Trey Lyles has come through with some impressive performances as of late. In the past five games, the freshman has topped 14 points on three occasions while becoming a bigger part of the offense.

Although he went 1-of-8 from the field Friday against Florida, he remained aggressive throughout and should eventually get the shots to fall.

Things will also be much easier against Auburn, which has struggled to defend the paint all season long. According to KenPom.com, the Tigers rank 338th in the nation in two-point defense. Karl-Anthony Towns might be a safer choice, but Lyles represents plenty of value at his current price.

Trevon Bluiett, Xavier ($5,500)

Although Trevon Bluiett has been inconsistent throughout most of the season, he has been a reliable scorer as of late with at least nine points in the past six games. Only twice in the last 12 games has he failed to reach that mark.

The good news is, even when he isn't playing well or hitting his shots, the freshman remains a go-to option in Xavier's offense. His least efficient games still feature plenty of opportunities for points.

Adding this to his ability to tally rebounds and assists, and Bluiett has a chance to easily exceed his value at the relatively cheap cost.

Landen Lucas, Kansas ($4,800)

With Cliff Alexander dealing with NCAA issues, Landen Lucas has gotten a chance to show what he can do for Kansas and so far he has not disappointed. Even with a mediocre performance against Baylor, he is averaging 10 points and 8.3 rebounds per game over the last three.

Considering the sophomore is averaging just 3.3 points and 3.9 rebounds over the course of the year, this improvement is massive. Rob Dauster of NBC Sports joked about the shocking play:

Against Iowa State, Lucas should be able to use his size advantage in the post and once again rack up plenty of points and rebounds.

Duje Dukan, Wisconsin ($3,100)

If you're looking for a cheap player capable of coming through with a surprise performance, look no further than Wisconsin reserve Duje Dukan.

The 6'9" stretch forward grew up playing at the United Center as the son of a Chicago Bulls scout, which fortunately is the same location as the Big Ten tournament. His comfort level allowed him to come through with a solid eight points in the quarterfinals win over Michigan.

After just seven players checked in against the Wolverines, Wisconsin will likely need to turn to its bench even more in the semifinals against Purdue. This will be a chance for Dukan to shine, especially considering his aggressiveness lately with 15 shots in the past two games.

As long as he gets an opportunity, the senior can provide some good value for his price.

More Value Picks

  • Kennedy Meeks, North Carolina ($6,000)
  • Kenny Gaines, Georgia ($5,400)
  • Jake Layman, Maryland ($5,400)
  • Gabe York, Arizona ($4,500)
  • Bonzie Colson, Notre Dame ($4,100)
