Ben Simmons, 5-Star LSU Commit, Named Naismith Trophy Player of the Year
In some not-so-surprising news, Montverde Academy prep star Ben Simmons has won the 2014-15 Naismith Trophy as the best male high school player in the country.

It was also confirmed by the Naismith Trophy group:
Simmons is the nation's top recruit in 2015 and is already committed to LSU, per 247 Sports. The star forward continues to rack up the awards, being named the Morgan Wootten Award winner Tuesday, which is given to the best men's McDonald's All-American player who displays leadership qualities on and off the court.
After winning the Wootten Award, Simmons talked about the work that he does with children around the community, per Paul Biancardi of ESPN.com: "Our school has a program called Basketball Buddies, and I have a group of fourth- and fifth-graders who I help with their school work, mentor and spend time with, and I love it. It feels good to know I can be a role model and kids can look up to me. It also helps me make the right choices."
So not only is LSU getting a superstar talent on the court but a young man of high character who can become the face of a basketball program. Simmons is going to make the Tigers better simply by stepping on campus, to say nothing of what he's capable of doing in the gym.
This certainly won't be the last time Simmons' name comes up in high school player of the year and awards races. He's everything that colleges look for in an elite recruit, and he should help make the Tigers a must-see program next season.
