Nike Air Jordan 4 Retro 'Teal' Release Date Schedule and Retail Price

Adam WellsMar 12, 2015

It's already been a very big year for Michael Jordan, but his brand and Nike are about to make it even bigger with Saturday's release of the Air Jordan 4 Retro sneaker for $190.

No player-based brand in sports is as big as the Air Jordan. The former Chicago Bulls superstar was recently debuted on Forbeslist of billionaires.

According to Forbes' Kurt Badenhausen, despite having not played in an NBA game since 2003, Jordan raked in $100 million last year:

Jordan earned $100 million from Nike and other partners last year by Forbes’ count, more than any other retired or current athlete. His 2014 haul is also more than the $94 million Jordan made in cumulative playing salary during 15 years lacing up his hightops for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards.

As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Nike knows that shoe collectors, as well as casual fans, will come out in full force for the release of a retro Jordan sneaker. It's not a bad gig for a former player to have, especially one who also owns an NBA team.

Here's all the information you need to know about the latest Jordan shoe release from Nike.

As far as what you are getting for your money, it's a reproduction of the fourth Air Jordan sneaker that was originally released in 1989.

According to Foot Locker's description of the original shoe, Jordan used these to hit "The Shot" over Craig Ehlo in the 1989 postseason. That moment, along with his 63-point performance against Boston in 1986, was one of the first that began to set the tone for his career moving forward.

The Foot Locker site also notes the Jordan 4 is "one of the most collected shoes in the series" and first received the retro treatment in 1999.

In terms of look and design, Nike tweeted out this oblique view of the updated teal colored Air Jordan 4 shoes:

Sneaker News also provided this snapshot from the back of the sneakers:

It's interesting that Nike is so invested in the Jordan retro market. Not to say that it doesn't make sense, as launching a new shoe with the iconic logo isn't likely to carry the same weight because Jordan isn't on the court to show them off.

Nike and Jordan have built up such a following over the last 30 years that the two parties can get away with releasing almost anything from any era of his playing career and fans are going to fill their local shoe store trying to get the latest release.

This latest version of the Air Jordan 4 brings plenty of flash, mostly due to the teal color. It's certainly a bold color choice, though not one that will draw the ire of fans. It gives the shoe an eye-popping look that is easily associated with the Jordan brand.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to wait in line at Foot Locker right now if I hope to lock down a pair of these shoes on Saturday.
