NFL Free Agency 2015: Latest Rumors, Predictions on Where Big Names Will Land

Matt FitzgeraldMar 11, 2015

The first wave of NFL free agency saw plenty of big moves happen, but there are still several big names on the open market deciding where they'll play for the next phase of their careers.

Rumors abound about impending visits with other teams, as marquee players attempt to make the best decisions possible for their respective futures. Sizable checks and the pull of certain star power made a lot of high-profile deals happen already. The chaos is only beginning, though.

Below is a closer look at the buzz surrounding a few of the highly coveted free agents still available on the open market, accompanied by predictions as to where they'll ultimately land.

Percy Harvin's 2 AFC East Suitors

Although Harvin played for the New York Jets for most of the 2014 season, he won't be back with the team after they decided to release him as a means to spend money elsewhere.

Two teams within the Jets' division may make New York regret the decision to dispose of such a dynamic playmaker in Harvin, though. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the New England Patriots are in the market for Harvin:

Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports adds that the Buffalo Bills are mulling bringing Harvin into the fold:

Holy possibilities, Batman. The Patriots are the reigning Super Bowl champions. Legendary quarterback Tom Brady thrived with Wes Welker operating in the slot for years. Just imagine what someone like Harvin could do in New England's system in a similar role.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today weighed in on how the temperamental Harvin has worn out his welcome at numerous stops in recent years, which makes him a bit of a risk:

Harvin did play under new Buffalo coach Rex Ryan with the Jets last year, which could help the Bills lure Harvin. But their unsavory QB situation, juxtaposed with the great shape the Pats are in with Brady, should show the stark difference between the two franchises.

If these wind up being Harvin's two finalists, expect him to go with New England, as the reigning Super Bowl champions present the best chance for him to hoist another Lombardi Trophy soon.

Prediction: Harvin signs with Patriots.

Jordan Cameron: Stay in Cleveland or Go to Miami?

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports that Cameron is bound for a free-agent visit with the Dolphins.

Salguero indicates that incumbent Miami tight end Charles Clay is visiting with Buffalo, which could mean his time with the Dolphins is over. Miami hit Clay with the transitions tag, but if the Bills put forward an offer the Dolphins are refusing to match, he could flee to Buffalo.

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that the Browns want Cameron back "at [the] right price."

Let's pause for a Browns rant of sorts. They have an inordinate amount of cap space to spend, yet they don't use the modest franchise-tag price to guarantee Cameron's return for at least 2015.

Then they low-ball free safety Tashaun Gipson, and he retweets the following, along with an apparent reaction to the second-round tender he received, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler:

What is Cleveland waiting to spend its money on?

Josh McCown is now in the fold, but the Browns don't have much to offer in terms of the QB position, which is nothing new. It's hard to envision Cameron being thrilled in Cleveland even if the Browns meet his market value—much less, dare we say, exceed it to pay one of its few draft products who panned out.

If Miami and Cleveland are the two destinations of choice, regardless of what Clay decides to do, you can bet Cameron will be the latest pro athlete to take his talents to South Beach.

Prediction: Cameron signs with Dolphins.

Brian Orakpo to Visit Titans, Cardinals

Orakpo was Washington's top draft pick in 2009, and he's struggled to produce consistently in recent years. He did have a 10-sack season in 2013, but he missed 23 games in 2012 and this last year combined, so his open-market value is in question.

The Redskins likely won't bring Orakpo back after using the franchise tag on him last offseason, but reports indicate he'll be visiting with the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals.

TitanInsider.com's Terry McCormick had the news on Orakpo's courtship with Tennessee, while ESPN's John Keim had the scoop on the veteran's upcoming visit in the desert:

The Titans don't appear to present a great opportunity to win right away if Orakpo were to choose them as his free-agent destination. A lot of work needs to be done on both sides of the ball, evident in that Tennessee holds the No. 2 overall selection in this year's draft.

That's why Arizona seems like a better fit for Orakpo. Head coach Bruce Arians has done a commendable job at the helm in each of the past two seasons, and the Cardinals figure to continue an attacking style of defense even with past coordinator Todd Bowles taking the Jets' head job.

Arians likes to be the aggressor, whether it's deploying a vertical passing game or pressuring the opponents with blitz-heavy schemes.

This is where Orakpo has the best chance to thrive. He has the tools to give Arizona the elite 3-4 edge-rusher it needs to capitalize on its strong secondary and offer more schematic versatility, rather than having to bring extra men to manufacture pressure on the opposing passer.

Prediction: Orakpo signs with Cardinals.
