Analysis
One thing WWE has done well on the Road to WrestleMania is use its television time to bring different feuds to the forefront. While Raw has been reserved for the main events, with segments involving Reigns, Rollins, Cena, Rusev and Triple H receiving the most time, SmackDown has been home to the continued development of the intercontinental title program.
This week, that story again dominates, with the immensely talented individuals involved showcasing their skills for the audience to see.
In an attempt to get the No. 1 contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship as much TV time as possible before his inevitable ascension to the top of the sports-entertainment mountain, Reigns' promo and the return of Henry is an excellent use of the second-generation Samoan Superstar.
Given that he is in need of some refinement when it comes to his promo work, sticking him on the B-show to get more time on the stick, all the while interacting with established main event stars who fans respect, will only benefit him in the long run.
The injection of The New Day and Los Matadores in the tag team picture may have been a curious move to some, but it is a great way to provide fans with an energetic and entertaining match that could open WrestleMania, either on the pre-show or the main telecast.
Given the talent of all eight men involved, there is no doubt that any championship match that results should be extremely fun, as should the huge tag bout that kicks off the in-ring portion of this week's SmackDown.
Overall, what the blue brand typically lacks in star power it more than makes up for in story advancement and quality in-ring action. Fans who do not appreciate the numerous tag matches WWE books on television will not like this week's broadcast.
For everyone else, it should be an action-packed, fast-paced two hours of television featuring some of the best workers in the company.
