No. 12 Boston College 66, No. 13 Georgia Tech 65

An Olivier Hanlan go-ahead jumper with 10.6 seconds left was the difference in an extremely competitive game between Boston College and Georgia Tech on Tuesday.
With his team down one point in the final minute, the junior took over with the closing points, causing Sam Vecenie of CBS Sports to create a word:
"Hanlanions!

These points were two of his game-high 25 to go with eight rebounds and five assists in an incredible showing for the All-ACC player.
On the other hand, Georgia Tech deserves a lot of credit for keeping the game close despite playing without leading scorer Marcus Georges-Hunt, who broke his foot in the team's last game.
Tadric Jackson led the way with 16 points, although the theme for the Yellow Jackets was the battle on the boards. They out-rebounded the Eagles 43-26 and got a lot of easy baskets thanks to 19 offensive rebounds.
Charles Mitchell had a strong day throughout, causing problems early, as noted by Michael Vega of The Boston Globe:
He finished the game with 14 points and 11 rebounds off of the bench for his seventh double-double of the season. Still, Boston College was able to counter with the ACC's leading scorer in Hanlan.
Lauren Brownlow of WRAL noted how well the star was playing during the game:
It wasn't his best shooting day, but he still managed to carry his team when it needed him the most. With 19 points from Patrick Heckmann, the Eagles were able to remain competitive despite the rebounding disadvantage.
In the end, though, it all came down to the final few plays. After a Robert Sampson three-pointer gave Georgia Tech the six-point lead with under two minutes remaining, Boston College scored the next seven points to regain the lead.
After Jackson gave the Yellow Jackets the lead with about 30 seconds remaining, Hanlan answered right back to regain the lead. When Corey Heyward's shot in the final seconds missed, Boston College was able to leave with the narrow win.
The Eagles will now go on to play No. 5 seeded North Carolina in the second round, which isn't too much of a prize considering the squad's immense talent. Still, with some more strong performances from their best players, an upset remains a possibility.
No. 14 Virginia Tech 81, No. 11 Wake Forest 80

A career day from freshman Jalen Hudson carried Virginia Tech to an upset victory over Wake Forest.
The guard carried the Hokies in this one, totaling a career high of 32 points in the win, including the go-ahead basket with about 13 seconds remaining. Hudson averaged just 6.2 points per game during the season and combined for just 10 points in the previous three games, but he stepped up in a big way Tuesday.
ESPN's Dan Shulman was one of many impressed by the showing:
Wake Forest got its production from its normal players, who provided big efforts in the loss. Devin Thomas tallied 22 points and nine rebounds, while Codi Miller-McIntyre came through with 23 points and 11 assists, but they could not keep up on the scoreboard.
Despite just a 2-16 record in conference play, the Hokies showed up with confidence. They battled throughout the first 15 minutes of the game before really flexing their muscle with a 13-2 run going into halftime.
Raphielle Johnson of NBC Sports noted the difference as Virginia Tech took a 41-31 lead into intermission:
The lead grew as much as 11 in the second half, but that was when Wake Forest came alive to ensure a competitive finish. As Roger Watson of the News Leader noted, the comeback was led by the team’s best all-around player:
Miller-McIntyre and Thomas continued to put up the numbers, but Hudson and the rest of Virginia Tech refused to go away.
After Konstantinos Mitoglou hit a go-ahead three for Wake Forest in the final minute, Hudson once again came through, this time with the eventual game-winner for the underdogs. The Demon Deacons had a few chances for the win but couldn't get the ball in the net as their season came to an end.
Virginia Tech will now take on Miami in a game that could end up having bubble implications. The Hurricanes are trying to prove they deserve a bid to the NCAA tournament, but a loss in this second-round game would likely end any hope.
Round 2 Preview
| 12 p.m. | No. 8 Clemson vs. No. 9 Florida State | ESPN |
| 2 p.m. | No. 5 North Carolina vs. No. 12 Boston College | ESPN |
| 7 p.m. | No. 7 North Carolina State vs. No. 10 Pittsburgh | ESPN2 |
| 9 p.m. | No. 6 Miami vs. No. 14 Virginia Tech | ESPN2 |
While the opening game between Clemson and Florida State won't mean much for the postseason, there will be a lot more interest in what North Carolina can do in the second game.
The Tar Heels are safely in the NCAA tournament, but they will want to at least get another chance at Louisville in the quarterfinals after splitting two close regular-season games; however, an early upset could dramatically affect their seed.
Meanwhile, North Carolina State is also likely playing for seeding in the Big Dance after seemingly locking in its bid. Still, head coach Mark Gottfried isn't taking this tournament lightly, per Scout.com:
"We have a lot to play for. Obviously there is a championship on the line, and we'd like to have a chance to compete for that.
I don't assume anything as far as the NCAA Tournament. We have to play our way into the NCAA Tournament, and if you can do that you're also playing for seeding in the NCAA Tournament.
"
The Wolfpack's matchup against Pittsburgh will likely be one of the more entertaining battles in the early rounds in Greensboro.
Finally, the Miami Hurricanes will likely need a deep run this week to get on the right side of the bubble, although a loss before the quarterfinals would be enough to end any dreams of dancing.
