Big 12 Tournament 2015: Complete Bracket and Predictions After Regular Season

Sean ODonnellMar 8, 2015

The regular season has officially concluded for the Big 12, and if Saturday's action gives any indication as to how competitive the conference's tournament will be, we're certainly in for a treat.

West Virginia finished the regular season in style, defeating Oklahoma State by nine points, thanks to a solid showing by Devin Williams. Texas and Iowa State also notched solid victories; however, Oklahoma was the team that made headlines, upsetting Kansas 75-73 on a buzzer-beating tip-in by Buddy Hield.

With the conference's 10 teams now ranked for postseason action, here's a look at each squad's path to a tournament win, via Big 12 Conference:

Will top-seeded Kansas run away with the Big 12 tournament title, or is the team's loss in its regular-season finale a sign of things to come? Before the postseason showdown gets underway from Kansas City, let's take a stab at predicting every impending contest.

Tournament Predictions

The action kicks off with a contest between Kansas State and TCU. Both teams put together roller-coaster seasons, but the Wildcats have been the more impressive squad of late.

While Kansas State lost its final regular-season contest to Texas, it defeated Kansas and Iowa State in back-to-back games just before that. TCU managed to notch a win the last time these teams met, but the Wildcats will even the series here.

Texas Tech has been playing better than it gets credit for of late, as the Red Raiders were able to hang with Baylor and Oklahoma in recent contests. However, Texas has been winning games due to solid defense, and that doesn't bode well for a Texas Tech team that is only shooting 40.3 percent from the floor. Expect a Longhorns victory in this one.

A showdown between Baylor and West Virginia should come with plenty of fireworks. However, the Bears have had the Mountaineers' number this season, defeating them twice by a combined margin of 30 points. Baylor continues to play good defense and can win down low, a combination that will lead to a third consecutive win over West Virginia.

Kansas is coming off a loss and needs to right the ship quickly, and it will have to do so against a Kansas State team that earned a seven-point win the last time these in-state rivals faced off. The Jayhawks have a talented starting five and are difficult to beat when in a groove. If Wayne Selden Jr. can get his shot back, Kansas will be very dangerous, and he has enough experience to come through in the clutch.

Iowa State is completely unpredictable; its offense can light up the scoreboard in an instant. The Cyclones shoot the ball well from all over the court, and their high-octane approach has led to two wins against Texas this season. The Longhorns defense is very good, but it isn't good enough to contain Georges Niang and Co.

Oklahoma will attempt to defeat Oklahoma State for the third consecutive time this season in the quarterfinal contest. The Sooners excelled on both ends of the court in their two previous meetings with the Cowboys, winning by a combined margin of 25 points. Expect that trend to continue, as Oklahoma is riding high after taking down Kansas in its regular-season finale.

The last time Baylor and Kansas faced off, the Bears defense couldn't contain Perry Ellis and Kelly Oubre Jr., as the duo combined to score 36 points. Oubre continues to play well, and Ellis should be back in action after recovering from a sprained knee. With the Jayhawks at full strength, they'll be too much for Baylor to handle.

Iowa State and Oklahoma split their regular-season series. A lack of defense was problematic for the Cyclones the first time these teams met, as the Sooners put up 94 points. Iowa State did win the second time around, but it took a late rally and some missed opportunities by Oklahoma to get it done. The Sooners will take advantage of a porous defense once again to earn a trip to the final.

Oklahoma managed a last-second victory over Kansas to close out the regular season, and the Jayhawks will be looking for some redemption in the tournament's concluding game. Well, they'll get it. Not only is Ellis expected to return for Kansas, but Brannen Greene will be back, according to Gary Bedore of KUSports.com. Expect them to ensure the team maintains its lead this time around.

Predicted tournament winner: Kansas
