LeSean McCoy Reportedly Traded for Kiko Alonso: Twitter Reacts to Blockbuster
If you thought Chip Kelly left his Oregon ties back in Eugene when he came to the Philadelphia Eagles, think again.
The Eagles and Buffalo Bills shocked the NFL world Tuesday, as ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news of an impending trade involving running back LeSean McCoy and linebacker Kiko Alonso:

Rachel Nichols of CNN noted that the trade wasn't the only news that broke Tuesday:
McCoy may be the headline name in that trade considering he anchored the Eagles offense last season with 1,319 rushing yards and five touchdowns, but it is impossible to ignore the Oregon connection between Kelly and Alonso.
Grantland's Bill Barnwell commented on that, as did Doug Gottlieb of CBS Sports:
Bleacher Report's Jason Cole discussed how the move could impact the Eagles' free agent hopes:
ESPN Stats & Info shared just how deep the Oregon connections now run on the Philadelphia roster:
SportsNation and Campus Insiders poked some fun at the sheer number of Ducks on the team:
The move came as a surprise. Apparently, fans weren't the only ones taken aback by the news, as Ross Jones of Fox Sports passed along:
The Bills seemed surprised as well, as Michael Silver of NFL.com and offensive lineman Eric Wood both expressed:
Zac Jackson of Fox Sports Ohio pointed out the cruel nature of the running back position in 2015 and how even a superstar such as McCoy is not safe from roster attrition and moves:
The Bills also brought head coach Rex Ryan aboard this offseason. His reputation as a run-first coach precedes him, and that could mean a number of handoffs for the newly acquired McCoy, as ESPN's Bomani Jones acknowledged:
Peter King of Sports Illustrated seemed to like the trade from Buffalo's perspective:
ESPN Stats & Info pointed out that Eagles fans shouldn't despair too much about the loss of McCoy, because Alonso was one of the most productive linebackers in the NFL in 2013:
Perhaps the most surprising part of the trade is that blockbuster moves like this rarely happen in the NFL. Marc Sessler noted how coincidental Tuesday's move was when compared to another trade involving a star running back and the NFC East:
Bill Landis of Cleveland.com pointed out that trades do happen in another football realm:
It would be easy to declare the Bills the winners of this trade given McCoy's overall explosiveness, but SportsCenter pointed out that the running back has a lot of miles on his odometer, while Mike Sando of ESPN.com said fans should take the long-term approach to evaluating the move:
Now, the Eagles will have to turn some attention toward replacing McCoy in the backfield. Marcas Grant of NFL.com offered some potential replacements:
The Eagles could be better on the defensive side given this latest move, but they could use another running back in Kelly's up-tempo offensive system.
As for Ryan, he seems ready to make some noise in the AFC East this season and give the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots a challenge. Adding a playmaker like McCoy is one way to make a loud offseason statement.
