Everyone Has Experienced Lows, The Climb Back Up Is What Defines You
Everyone has gotten to a point in life where they hit rock bottom. Some worse than others, yet everyone has a low point in their life.
No matter who you are, there comes a time when you lose someone or something that you truly love. There is no denying this moment. It may blindside you, or you may see it coming a mile away. Regardless, you will still feel the pain upon its arrival.
We see this in the world of sports every year, a player who hits rock bottom and goes through a tremendous deal of strife.
Most recently, we have seen Josh Hamilton resurrect himself from the deep depths of drug and alcohol abuse, back into the spotlight of professional sports. Recently he suffered a relapse, yet it is a mere speed bump on the road to his ultimate goals.
Hamilton is human, like anyone else who walks this Earth, so of course mistakes will be made. It is how you redeem yourself and pick yourself up that truly matters.
One moment that will echo forever in sports eternity is Tiger Woods' triumphant victory in the 2006 Open Championship.
It was not the victory alone which will be remembered, but his embrace with long-time friend and caddy Steve Williams after the completion of play.
Woods recently lost Earl Woods, his mentor, best friend, and most importantly, his father.
After missing the cut at the U.S. Open a few weeks prior, many did not know what to expect from Tiger. He came out focused and tamed his emotion, earning a two-shot victory of Chris Dimarco.
After the shots were hit and the tournament was decided, it was that unexpected burst of emotion that made the tournament unforgettable.
To see a man whom most consider a machine, a man who shows little emotion while competing, burst into tears and grab his nearest friend for comfort, showed an unforgettable moment in sports and life.
It demonstrated the efforts of a man who had lost his anchor, yet pushed his way back to the top, and was emotionally spent in the end.
For everyone who experiences this crazy yet remarkable gift that is life, a low point is unavoidable. You are bound to lose at least someone or something you undeniably love along the way.
But the moments after the dark times are what define a person and show how strong they really are.
