Baron Corbin, Solomon Crowe and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertFeb 25, 2015

Baron Corbin's potential new partner and Solomon Crowe's quick thinking highlight the latest WWE NXT news.

Officials are reportedly considering giving Corbin a female ally. A woman involved in a car accident found an unexpected ally in Crowe.

In other WWE developmental news, NXT could be touring before long, an NCAA wrestling champ caught one scout's eye, and Sasha Banks received an endorsement from a two-time Divas titleholder. Plus, Jeff Jarrett named his current favorite NXT wrestler.

The woman Crowe helped post-crash likely doesn't share the same opinion as Jarrett. The new arrival to the NXT landscape made a fan for life.

Solomon Crowe Pulls Woman from Overturned Car

Solomon Crowe witnessed a car accident, one that ended with a woman trapped inside an overturned vehicle. The NXT prospect's instincts then kicked in.

Crowe told WWE.com, "When I saw it, I was wearing sandals, and I just took off in a full sprint toward the car. I knew especially if a car's upside down like that, it can catch fire very easily, and whoever was in it, we wanted to get them out."

Once he pried open the door and pulled the driver out, he waited with her until the paramedics arrived.

Reminiscent of Chris Masters rescuing his mom from a burning building, Crowe gets major points for his quick, selfless reaction. After his debut, it may have been unclear whether he was a heel or not, but in real life at least, he's a clear babyface.

Update on NXT Touring

2 of 5

NXT may be coming to your town sooner than expected. Triple H has recently talked a lot about putting the NXT brand on the road more. It appears that this could happen before the summer begins.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson reports, "There is talk of WWE NXT touring on the road as early as this May. We've heard of the company reaching out to several venues lately."

That's exciting news for fans and NXT itself. Getting out of Florida and the Southeast will provide NXT with more exposure. And for some of the folks who tune in to NXT each week, it's going to be easier to be up close to the action.

WWE Scouting NCAA Wrestling Champion

3 of 5

The pursuit of the next great wrestler recently took WWE scout Gerald Brisco to Iowa to catch a wrestling champion in action. Brisco tweeted that J'den Cox is why he recently went to Iowa to scout.

The University of Missouri's Cox was the 2014 national champ in his weight class as well as the 2014 MAC wrestler of the year. He is just under 200 pounds and built extremely well.

Pro wrestling has a long history of grooming college wrestlers, some of whom have had tremendous careers.

It's worth keeping an eye out for how this story develops. An athlete with world-class mat skills such as Cox would be a welcome addition to NXT.

NXT Possibly Pairing Baron Corbin with Diva

4 of 5

The surplus of tattoos that both Baron Corbin and Zahra Schreiber have could end up pushing them into a partnership. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), there has been some talk of putting Schreiber with Corbin.

That would be a big step up for Schreiber, who hasn't debuted on TV and is most famous at the moment for a nude photo scandal. Being Corbin's second makes great sense for her.

For Corbin, his character feels like a lone wolf. Unless Schreiber can carry the load on the microphone for this duo, he has little to gain by getting a little-known Diva to stand by his side.

Other News, Notes

Kalisto didn't appear on Monday's Raw, but he was backstage, dressed for battle, just in case. El Torito tweeted a picture of Kalisto backstage at the show.

In the past, WWE has brought along NXT talents to Raw and not used them. The fact that he was asked to be there at all is a good sign.

The next night he did get a chance to step into the ring. Per ProFightDB.com (contains spoilers), The Lucha Dragons worked Tuesday's Main Event, taking on the tag team champs.

Last week, Samoa Joe's exit from TNA had fans excited about him possibly coming to NXT. That won't be happening. At least not right now.

The Samoan Submission Machine signed with Ring of Honor. ROH announced on its website that Joe will be back with the company, first appearing on March 7.

That means that Jeff Jarrett, who is building his own promotion, won't get a chance to showcase Joe either.

In an interview on the NOW Wrestling Live! podcast (h/t Wrestling Inc), Jarrett spoke about Global Force Wrestling, and NXT came up as well.

When asked to name his favorite NXT wrestler, he pointed to Kevin Owens. Of the NXT champ, he said, "I'm excited him because of the road he's traveled all these years. When he hits the main roster he's going to shake things up."

The NXT women's champ got some free publicity as well.

Paige told the International Business Times, "I still think Sasha Banks is the one that I personally want to come up and who I think is completely ready and the full package, boxed up and ready to go. I feel like she'd be absolutely perfect up here."

Paige added that she believes Charlotte needs more time at developmental.

She's certainly right about Banks' ability. The Boss is the best overall wrestler at NXT and would instantly be one of the main roster's best should she make that jump.

Now that she carries the women's title, she will get ample opportunity to prove that.
