WWE Fastlane 2015: Full Predictions for Each Champion at Event

Brad JonesFeb 22, 2015

With only weeks to go until WrestleMania, WWE Fastlane 2015 is the last chance for many title hopefuls to grab the belt before The Showcase of the Immortals—and it wouldn't be surprising to see at least one championship change hands.

Aside from the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, all the gold is on the line. The stakes are never higher than in WrestleMania season, and that's especially true when titles are in play. Here are the latest predictions of how the WWE's champions will fare this evening.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

Reigning WWE Divas Champion: Nikki Bella

Despite her in-ring abilities having improved dramatically, Nikki Bella's run with the Divas Championship hasn't given fans all that much to talk about.

The way her spat with sister Brie was forgotten about to win the title gave her reign a rocky start, and since then, her uneven rivalry with Paige hasn't improved matters much. It's clear that Nikki is a transitional champion, but who is set to follow her is less obvious.

The outcome of Paige vs. Nikki at Fastlane will decide which of the two is present in the title match at WrestleMania. Paige would be the choice for many, as her technical skill will likely make for the best in-ring performance on the biggest night of the year.

Paige seems like the better prospect. A Bella vs. Bella showdown at WrestleMania likely wouldn't do much to entice fans, but seeing Paige take on a returning AJ Lee, or even NXT's Charlotte, could make for a great undercard bout to give the women's division a much-needed reset.

Reigning WWE Tag Team Champions: The Usos

It's easy to look at The Usos as stale tag team champs, but the brothers have to be praised for the way they have carried the division on their back for more than a year.

While other teams come and go, The Usos are always around to deliver excellent tag team action. They've developed a strong fanbase, and they've done it by treating every performance like it's the main event.

We've seen The Usos bring lesser teams up to their level, but they'll have no such work to do tonight. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd are more than a match for the skills of the Samoans, and we're sure to see quite the contest.

However, it seems clear that The Usos will walk out with the belts. The Brass Ring Club are still a relatively new pairing, and with no clear opponents ready to take them on, a title change at this eleventh hour before WrestleMania would seem unwise.

Both teams would certainly be worthy champions coming out of Fastlane, but the lack of attention given to the tag team division at the moment would suggest that we won't see any change to the status quo. That said, this match will be an entertaining contest.

Reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion: Bad News Barrett

While the feud between Bad News Barrett and Dean Ambrose has been limp thus far, their match at Fastlane looks poised to steal the show.

Both men are excellent wrestlers, with an uncanny ability to draw the audience in. This should be a physical encounter, one that will likely leave fans wanting more, but it seems like this one could just be a one-off to bolster Fastlane's undercard.

With Cena vs. Rusev looking a likely candidate for a WrestleMania rematch, it would be strange to see the other midcard title bout be a repeat. Given that Barrett's run with the title has barely begun, he looks set to come out on top later tonight.

Ambrose winning the Intercontinental Championship for the first time just before WrestleMania in a thrown-together match just doesn't make sense. It's unclear what is planned for The Lunatic Fringe, but making his first title defence be at WrestleMania wouldn't seem to be the clear option.

Instead, expect this one to be a great match filled with engaging action but little long-term impact for either man. Barrett will take home his title, and Ambrose will move onto another foe.

Reigning WWE United States Champion: Rusev

Of all the NXT graduates to hit the main roster thus far, few can compare with the tear that Rusev has been on over the past several months.

With a title round his waist and his skills improving every week, there's every chance that Rusev could be a main event monster for years to come. However, at Fastlane, John Cena stands as the gatekeeper to The Bulgarian Brute's continued success.

We've seen time and again how the Doctor of Thuganomics can derail an up-and-comer rising through the ranks. However, it's been years since we saw Cena challenge for a midcard title, throwing an interesting dynamic into this bout.

The sight of Cena with the long-neglected United States Championship around his waist would certainly be unexpected, but it's far from an outlandish prospect. When Cena faces younger talent, he typically wins the first bout only to pick up a loss later on.

Cena snatching the belt away from Rusev could give this feud the intensity it needs to make a rematch worthy of WrestleMania. The title will be Cena's later tonight—but Rusev isn't the sort of competitor who'll let it go easily.
