Most Underrated Match on the Card
Despite a mediocre build that saw the contract for the match signed illegally, the in-ring action between defending intercontinental champion Bad News Barrett and Dean Ambrose has the chance to steal the show.
On one hand, you have Ambrose. He is arguably one of the most entertaining personalities on the mic today, but his ability to tell convincing stories extends to the ring. While he is not the most polished worker in the business, he understands his style and knows how to get the WWE Universe involved in his matches.
On the other hand, you have Barrett. As one of the legitimate tough guys on the roster, Barrett is well-versed in the art of striking but has the ability to chain-wrestle while telling a convincing story in the ring as well.
Combined, Ambrose and Barrett should put on an entertaining match. WWE officials will likely be looking for a match that eats up 10-15 minutes, and the Intercontinental Championship bout should feature plenty of great action if given that much time.
When asked by Graham Caygill of The National about his upcoming Fastlane match against Ambrose, Barrett was quick to throw a few jabs toward his challenger:
"He is sniffing around at the moment. As far as I am concerned he is not a worthy champion in WWE, but I might end up accepting it [Ambrose’s challenge] just to teach him a lesson. We will see about that. If I do get in the ring with Dean Ambrose I promise you I am going to smash his head in with a bullhammer. I mean I am going to be Intercontinental champion for a long time, don’t worry about that.
"
The hope is that both men understand the opportunity they have been presented and run with it.
Ambrose and Barrett are two of the most talented all-around performers on the roster today, and the potential in-ring action could make this the best match of the night. If the two men commit to an entertaining story and tell it throughout the bout, fans will be invested in the eventual outcome.
Since Barrett has been booked so terribly after winning the Intercontinental Championship, most fans hope he loses the belt. He would be better off as one of the top heels in the company due to the lack of elite bad guys on the roster right now.
WWE understands the popularity of Ambrose and has the desire to continue building him up as a top face, so he should begin winning matches and add legitimacy to the title. Letting The Lunatic Fringe walk away from Fastlane with the IC title is the right game plan.
Predicted Winner: Ambrose defeats Barrett to win IC title
