Kalisto, Samoa Joe and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertFeb 18, 2015

Kalisto is set to make his first stop on the main roster, while Samoa Joe's recent announcement has fans wondering if WWE NXT will be his next destination.

In one case, an athletic dynamo gets his first chance to impress on a bigger stage. As for Joe, he becomes the hottest free agent in the business after TNA couldn't keep him around. The speculation about whether Full Sail University will soon welcome him has already begun.

In other developmental news, the NXT prospects have reportedly made their main roster counterparts envious. Some officials are somehow skeptical about Charlotte, and WWE called upon Bull Dempsey over the weekend.

Kalisto Makes Main Roster Debut

1 of 5

Kalisto could soon be leaving NXT behind. He made his first appearance on the main roster during Tuesday's TV tapings.

As PWInsider's Mike Johnson notes (note: link contains spoilers), The Lucha Dragons competed on the latest edition of Main Event.

WWE has previously had NXT prospects pop up on Main Event and Raw, only to send them back down to developmental. So this is no guarantee that WWE has promoted him. It is, however, a big first step.

With Kalisto and Sin Cara no longer the tag team champions, the transition to WWE proper would be easy.

The tag team division could use the help as well. Goldust and Stardust are a duo no longer. And Damien Mizdow can't suffer The Miz's abuse for much longer.

The Lucha Dragons would add excitement to the division and give WWE numerous new options, such as the luchadores rekindling their feud with The Ascension.

Main Roster Stars Frustrated over NXT Booking

2 of 5

In addition to rave reviews, NXT's stars are reportedly also receiving envy-rich glares.

According to F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc), there is apparently discontent among some on the main roster in regard to how NXT stars are getting ample chances to shine, while the WWE Superstars, especially the Divas, are receiving less ring time.

Developmental's outshining the main roster so often has been a surprising development. It's a testament to how well NXT officials have produced the product in Florida and how much talent WWE has at the minor league level.

Wrestlers, especially the women, will continue to have these sorts of negative feelings if NXT keeps leaning on quality storytelling, while WWE proper suffers from short matches and narratives that go nowhere.

Backstage Word on Charlotte

3 of 5

Charlotte has been one of NXT's best talents for months now. Despite being new to the mat game, she has absorbed its nuances at a tremendous rate.

Apparently, some folks at WWE aren't so convinced of her ability, though.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), some officials are high on Charlotte, while others have negative feelings about promoting her to the main roster. Reportedly, this may be a result of Charlotte not fitting the supermodel image that is common in the division.

If looks are the issue at hand, it would be disheartening.

Charlotte is a great talent and someone the company can build the division around. She looks like a star whether or not she looks like a Maxim cover model. It's rumblings like these that make one lose faith in WWE's decision-making.

Samoa Joe Leaves TNA

4 of 5

WWE has a major opportunity to add talent to its roster. Samoa Joe is now a free agent.

Joe announced on Twitter that he has left TNA after nearly a decade with the company.

WWE has typically not sought out former TNA stars, but the company should make an exception here. He's an excellent worker and would bring a strong fanbase with him.

And whereas TNA failed to maximize Joe's potential, WWE could find avenues for his mat skills and MMA-style offense.

There has been no word on whether WWE is interested in signing The Samoan Submission Machine to a developmental contract. Chances are that he chooses Ring of Honor or Japan instead. Until he picks one of those paths, though, fans will be anxious to see what Joe's next chapter brings.

House Show News, Other Notes

5 of 5

The WWE live events over the weekend had a NXT flavor to them.

As listed on Pro Wrestling Torch, Kevin Owens took on Adrian Neville on both Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 on house shows in Tampa and Fort Myers, Florida, respectively. Sasha Banks competed in six-Diva tag action on both nights.

Sami Zayn traveled with the WWE roster to Abu Dhabi, where he worked two of three shows, taking on Tyson Kidd for one event and Bo Dallas the next night.

And as noted on ProFightDB.com (note: link contains spoilers), Bull Dempsey worked a dark match before Tuesday's SmackDown tapings. He took on Fandango in a losing effort.

Folks are not used to seeing Dempsey in this context. While Adrian Neville and Zayn have had plenty of opportunities like this one, Dempsey getting this chance is noteworthy.

It's a hint of a possible promotion to the main roster in the future.

On Monday's Raw when Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns went at each other's throats, NXT was there as well. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports, "The NXT officials appearing at the end during the Daniel Bryan-Roman Reigns brawl were Bill Demott, Robbie Brookside and Norman Smiley."

Those three men are trainers at WWE developmental.

With Raw being in Orlando, Florida, on Monday, fans were hoping for a bit of an NXT crossover on the show. This isn't what most folks had in mind.
