Jones Suspended vs. Syracuse
Tuesday, Feb. 17
Brian Hamilton of Sports Illustrated passed along the news:
Jeff Greer of The Courier-Journal has more:
And Jeff Goodman of ESPN noted several comments made by head coach Rick Pitino:
On Wednesday, Pitino further talked about Jones, via Eric Crawford of WDRB in Louisville:
T.J. Walker of Rivals.com provided more from Pitino following the team's loss to Syracuse:
Jones is one of just four players on Louisville averaging more than 30 minutes (30.8) and double-digit points (13.6) per game. He's also adding 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and an impressive 2.0 steals per contest. For a 20-5 Louisville team that is currently ranked No. 12 in the nation, losing Jones is a pretty big blow.
It's also disappointing for the squad that Jones, a senior, would get suspended at this point in the season. While Louisville likely won't win the regular-season ACC title this season—Virginia is 12-1 in the conference—the team is still jockeying for position in the conference tournament and a high seed when March Madness commences.
While it remains to be seen how long Jones will be suspended, it's certainly a major loss for a talented team that has high postseason aspirations.
