Fairley Found Not Guilty of DUI, Guilty of Reckless Driving
Friday, Feb. 13
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press passed along word from WKRG's Jacqueline Quynh that Fairley was found not guilty of DUI. However, Kyle Meinke of MLive reported that he's been found guilty of reckless driving. Quynh reported that he will pay a $500 fine.
AL.com's Michael Dumas reported Fairley's thoughts on the verdicts, saying "I feel great," he said. "I just want to get this behind me and move forward. It has been emotional. I'm ready to go back to Houston to start training, rehabbing and get ready for all these teams to come look at me."

Jury Selected for Fairley Case
Wednesday, Feb. 11
Michael Dumas of AL.com reported the jury has been selected in Fairley's DUI trial:
USA Today noted Fairley was in Mobile County Circuit Court in Alabama as jury selection began:
"Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley was in Mobile County Circuit Court on Wednesday where jury selection began for his trial on DUI and reckless driving charges.
The case dates back to 2012, when Fairley was arrested and accused of driving up to 100 mph along Interstate 10.
"
The report states the NFL star tried to have the case thrown out twice over the past two months without any success. Add in the fact no plea deal has been reached, and he's set to face the charges in what's expected to become a quick trial.
Dumas says attempts to reach a deal have been hampered by a prior marijuana arrest. It prevents him from entering a pretrial diversion program as a part of pleading guilty:
"However, prosecutors argued they hadn't agreed to allow Fairley into the program, that he was in fact ineligible due to a previous arrest for marijuana possession. That charge was later dismissed, but the arrest alone was enough to keep him from getting a deal, the prosecution said.
"
Fairley played in just eight games for the Lions this past season. The 27-year-old lineman had 14 tackles and one sack before going down with a knee injury. He's set to become a free agent when the new league year begins next month.
