Triple H, Baron Corbin and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Triple H's vision for WWE NXT was at the center of the news cycle. His thoughts on where the developmental system is heading will have fans eager for the future.
Baron Corbin is poised to be a big part of that future. He recently joined a number of prospects who now find their names popping up in WWE's merchandise section.
In other news, one Diva gets the wrong kind of publicity, Gerald Brisco is looking for more talent and NXT's best worked alongside the main roster stars once again.
Talent Evaluation Set for July
1 of 5Wrestlers looking to advance their careers can soon do so by impressing Jim Ross and Gerald Brisco. The two Hall of Famers are hosting a tryout later this year.
As Pro Wrestling Torch's James Caldwell notes, Ross and Brisco "are scheduled to conduct a talent evaluation for the fifth straight year during the Tragos/Thesz Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame weekend in Waterloo, Iowa."
Brisco has long been scouting for WWE. He often heads to amateur wrestling events on the lookout for potential prospects. He's certain to find some hungry men and women this summer.
This Iowa scouting trip has become a tradition as of late, an annual career-changing opportunity.
Triple H Wants NXT to Become Touring Brand
2 of 5Triple H spoke a lot about NXT as the latest live special approaches. The most intriguing statement he made involves a vision of NXT becoming a separate touring brand by the end of the year.
PWInsider's Mike Johnson writes about what The Game said during a recent conference call:
"The plan is to take the brand out of the Florida area and to run smaller venues, including doing "sold" shows that the promotion can produce for a third party. In that instance, an organization or charity can reach out to WWE and "buy" the show from WWE NXT for a flat fee, which would produce the live event and then the organization would make their money back from ticket sales, concessions, etc.
"
This will be a major chance for NXT's prospects to grow. Many of the wrestlers on the roster have experience in arenas around the world. They will still benefit from getting a sampling of what the WWE schedule is like.
For those who didn't come to NXT by way of the independent circuit, this will be a chance to learn how to work in front of different crowds. The folks that pack Full Sail Live are much like the old ECW fanbase—knowledgeable, loud and passionate.
Not every crowd will be like that. Learning how to adjust to various audience temperatures will be invaluable.
NXT Diva Caught Up in Nude Photo Scandal
3 of 5
Most fans didn't know Zahra Schreiber's name until Monday night. That changed in an instant, but certainly not the way she would have wanted.
As reported by the New York Daily News, nude pictures of both Seth Rollins and Schreiber "surfaced on several social media accounts Monday."
The stars quickly deleted the photos, but the media had already caught wind of it. She and Rollins' private images appeared in a variety of outlets.
There has been no word yet on how WWE will decide to punish Schreiber, if it does at all, but one has to imagine that this will hurt her. This is the kind of incident that sends a wrestler to the doghouse from which he or she has to fight hard to climb out of.
WWE Releases Several New NXT T-Shirts
4 of 5NXT's name is growing and that includes in terms of the merchandise department. Baron Corbin is among a handful of prospects to get new T-shirts on WWE's official online store.
Corbin noted on Twitter that WWE is now selling a Corbin shirt. Finn Balor, Sami Zayn and Sasha Banks all also have new additions to the WWE catalog with their names on it.
This will help the company gauge interest in each star.
PWInsider Elite (subscription required, h/t Wrestling Inc) previously reported that WWE officials were very happy with how Kevin Owens' merchandise was selling. We'll soon see if Balor can be as successful in bringing his fanbase over to NXT and if fans are buying into Corbin.
House Show Notes
5 of 5
Familiar faces from NXT emerged on the house show circuit over the weekend again.
Per Pro Wrestling Torch, Sami Zayn and Adrian Neville defeated The Ascension at the WWE live event on Feb. 8 in Huntington, West Virginia. The next night, in Canton, Ohio, Sasha Banks teamed up with Alicia Fox against Natalya and Paige, as listed on ProFightDB.com.
Aside from being excellent experience, this is a continued sign that Neville, Zayn and Banks are nearing a promotion to the main roster. It's not as if NXT is sending Marcus Louis for these kind of opportunities.
It may feel like WWE is going too slowly in bringing up Neville and company, but it is certainly upping the chances of a smooth transition. With as much as Neville and Banks have competed on WWE house shows, it feels like they are already part of the main roster.
