UNC Fans Line Up for Free Paper Honoring Dean Smith, Shortage Leads to Scalping

Kyle NewportFeb 9, 2015

The University of North Carolina and Tar Heels nation suffered a great loss this past weekend when former basketball coach Dean Smith passed away at the age of 83 on Saturday. On Monday, The Daily Tar Heel—UNC's campus newspaper—honored the legendary coach.

Monday's special newspaper was something thousands of people on campus wanted to get their hands on. Even after printing more than usual, there were not enough newspapers to go around. That resulted in some people scalping the free newspaper.

“Then we got up this morning and by 10 a.m. they were out of the boxes, and people were scalping them in the street,” The Daily Tar Heel Arts and Culture editor Gabriella Cirelli said, via Nate Scott of USA Today's FTW.

Just look at the scene at Chapel Hill:

There were additional newspapers printed after the initial supply was handed out.
