Ray Allen Reportedly Will Decide NBA Future After 2015 All-Star Weekend
Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com has the latest:
"After months of considering his options and debating over his future, veteran Ray Allen plans to decide after All-Star Weekend, sources told ESPN.com.
Allen, 39, still has not decided whether he wants to return for a 19th season but has been keeping in shape and doing on-court work to keep his options open. Additionally, Allen has been in contact with teams to explore his possibilities and may take meetings during the upcoming All-Star break.
"
According to Windhorst, the Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and Atlanta Hawks are all contenders to sign him.
Back in December, Warriors general manager Bob Myers commented on the team's interest in Allen, via CSNBayArea.com:
"Warriors GM Bob Myers told 95.7 FM The Game on Thursday afternoon that the club has in fact reached out to Allen's representatives but said, 'it's uncertain as to what Ray wants to do.'
'Here's the problem,' Myers explained. 'We don't have enough minutes as it is so it's just a question of chemistry.'
"
Ethan Skolnick of Bleacher Report weighed in on a potential return for Allen:
Allen, who has spent 18 years in the NBA and played in 10 All-Star Games, averaged 9.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 26.5 minutes per game with Miami last season. He also shot 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.
At this point in his career, Allen is essentially a spot-up shooter who is at his best draining shots from beyond the three-point line. He would thrive in a system that favors shooters and spreads the floor, making both Atlanta and Golden State intriguing choices.
Of course, his familiarity with the system in Miami and his time spent playing with LeBron James make the Heat and Cavs the likely front-runners. Regardless, if Allen decides to return to the NBA, he'll have no shortage of suitors.
