Oher Signs With Panthers
Friday, March 6
Bryan Strickland of Panthers.com reported that Oher has signed with the Panthers on a two-year deal:
""I'm excited to be joining an organization that knows how to win. They've won the past two division championships, and I'm excited to be a part of it," Oher said. "When I came here on a visit, the culture was great. They're very into winning and doing everything possible to win."
Selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Ravens, Oher played his first two seasons under the tutelage John Matkso, who left Baltimore following the 2010 season to become Carolina's offensive line coach.
"He's a great coach," Oher said. "I learned a lot from him my first two years when he was in Baltimore, and the assistant that was with him in Baltimore carried his techniques on for a couple of more years.
"I'm excited to be back with him, working with him again. He knows how to teach football."

Browns, Others Looked Into Oher
Thursday, Feb. 5
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported the Browns were among quite a few teams chasing Oher:
The Titans released Oher after one season Thursday, just one day before $3.5 million of his $4 million base salary was due to be guaranteed, per ESPN's Field Yates. Oher signed a four-year, $20 million deal in Tennessee last offseason.
At the time, the deal was viewed as a curious decision given Oher's shaky play late in his Baltimore career. The Titans then further muddied the situation by taking Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan in the first round. While an early injury to Michael Roos allowed the situation to figure itself out organically, Oher's level of play proved far worse than anyone expected.
Pro Football Focus ranked Oher 50th among 54 qualifying offensive tackles in its pass-blocking metric. It was the fifth straight season he ranked outside the top 30, which has solidified his status as one of the worst pass-blocking starting tackles in football.
Had he not missed five games due to injury, it's possible Oher would have given up double-digit sacks for the third straight season. The Washington Post stats database credited Oher with six sacks allowed in 11 appearances.

While Oher may not provide great value as a left tackle for the Panthers, he still holds potential on the right side.
