Daily Fantasy College Basketball 2015: DraftKings Bargain Picks for Jan. 31

Rob GoldbergJan 31, 2015

Finding the diamonds in the rough is not too easy in daily fantasy college basketball, especially with so many options to choose from.

Players like Frank Kaminsky and Jerian Grant (or anyone on Notre Dame) are obvious plays if you can afford the high cost, but that also means you have to save money in other places. Here is a look at some bargain options with high upside for Saturday's games on DraftKings.

JayVaughn Pinkston, Villanova ($5,300)

It's hard to bet on JayVaughn Pinkston at this point after the senior has completely forgotten how to be a star. The forward has double-digit points in just one of the last seven games and hasn't had more than three made field goals in this stretch.

The problem isn't that he is playing poorly, he has simply taken a back seat to a deep roster of talented players on Villanova. If this encourages you to look in another direction for your contests like guard Dylan Ennis ($6,000), I won't blame you.

However, if you are looking for a high ceiling and a cheap price, it's hard to find anything better than Pinkston. The forward will have a great chance of breaking out against DePaul, a team that ranks 329th in the nation, while allowing 73.9 points per game and sits at 319th in defending two-point shots (52.9 percent).

The middle of the paint will be wide open for Daniel Ochefu and Pinkston, and this could be his chance to break out.

Kasey Hill, Florida ($4,900)

Like Pinkston, Kasey Hill has had a disappointing year to this point. However, Saturday's matchup against Arkansas gives him a great opportunity to break out of his slump.

The Razorbacks run a fast-paced attack, ranking 15th in the nation with 70.5 possessions per game, according to KenPom.com. This leads to great offense but a below-average defense, which Florida should be able to take advantage of with a strong offensive effort.

This type of game suits the former McDonald's All-American well because he can use his quickness to get into the lane and create for himself and others. The only game Florida has played this year with more than 70 possessions was against Florida State, and Hill came through with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

With his ability to rack up assists, the point guard has a chance for a quality showing for cheap. Dorian Finney-Smith should also be a solid pick if you can afford him at $6,900.

Collin Hartman, Indiana ($4,500)

In his first four games in the starting lineup, Collin Hartman went from having a small role offensively to averaging 10.3 points per game while shooting 10-of-15 from three-point range.

Although Purdue and its talented shot-blockers prevented the sophomore from doing much in the most recent game, head coach Tom Crean noted this will not be a theme going forward, via Terry Hutchens of Scout.com:

"

One reason that we’ve been shooting at such a high percentage is that we just simplify it. We didn’t do a good enough job of playing through the guys that needed to touch the ball more like Collin Hartman. And Collin wasn’t nearly as aggressive as he needed to be. We never took advantage of what we felt were our matchup advantages.

"

Indiana will get back into form against a Rutgers team that has lost five games in a row and will clearly be focusing on defending more prominent players on the Hoosiers.

Fantasy players can get a steal by drafting the overlooked Hartman while saving up money for some of the bigger names on the board.

Evening Games

Justise Winslow, Duke ($5,300)

Ordinarily, picking a player against Virginia is a bad idea. The Cavaliers, like Kentucky, have one of the best defenses in the nation and have such a slow pace that it's almost impossible to put up big stats (that means don't pick any other Duke or Alabama players).

However, Justise Winslow still provides good value at this price based on the fact he appears to be getting out of his slump. His 13 points against Notre Dame were more than he had in the previous four games combined.

With Rasheed Sulaimon dismissed from the team, Winslow will have a bigger role and a chance to have a solid day for Duke.

Rosco Allen, Stanford ($5,000)

The two most expensive guards in the evening contests are Stanford's Anthony Brown ($9,500) and Chasson Randle ($9,000). The reason for this is Washington State plays fast and sloppy, giving room for opposing scorers to rack up the stats all day long.

While grabbing either of these players represents a safe bet for a big day, you can also save some money by taking a chance on Rosco Allen. The 6'9" junior should be in line for solid numbers if he can find a gap in the defense and drill some open shots from behind the arc.

Allen has seen his playing time increase to 31.6 minutes per game since the start of Pac-12 play, and he should have plenty of opportunities for points, rebounds and three-pointers in this one.

Javan Felix, Texas ($4,700)

Although he lacks consistency, Javan Felix is certainly not afraid to shoot. The guard has scored at least 15 points in five of his last 10 games, including his 20-point, eight-assist performance last time out.

Even though he also has a zero-point showing in this stretch, that hasn't hurt his confidence as he averages 9.6 shots per game in the same time frame. This is what you want from a fantasy player; someone who will remain a big part of the offense no matter what happens.

With Baylor one of the few teams that won't have a size advantage over the 5'11" Felix (Bears use a backcourt of 5'11" Kenny Chery and 5'10" Lester Medford), the guard should get even more open looks than usual.

There is obviously a risk in such a streaky performer, but his upside for a cheap cost is worth the chance.
