Super Bowl 2015 Odds: Las Vegas Lines, Spread Info and Prop Bets

Kenny DeJohnJan 22, 2015

Just because your favorite team isn't in the 2015 Super Bowl doesn't mean you can't have a vested interest in the game.

Super Bowl XLIX figures to be an epic showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, but if you're confident, you might be able to win a little extra cash. Las Vegas has a bevy of prop bets on top of the spread and over/under, so everyone should be able to find a bet he or she is interested in.

You've come to the right place if you're looking for the latest prop bet and general betting information. Continue on to find out what's available.

Betting Advice

Trust your gut when dealing with Vegas, but there are a couple of bets you'd be smart to make on the Super Bowl. First off, bet the over.

Sure, the Seahawks had the No. 1 defense in terms of yards allowed per game. It's intimidating (and admittedly a small risk) to bet that a team will put up enough points against them to warrant betting the over. But the Patriots offense is rolling.

Tom Brady and Co. dropped 35 against the Baltimore Ravens and 45 against the Indianapolis Colts in the playoffs. They also scored at least 30 points eight times during the regular season. Brady leads a juggernaut, even with all the criticisms of his cast of receivers—outside of Rob Gronkowski, of course.

Because this figures to be such a close game, you should feel confident in betting that the score will total at least 49.

Bovada sportsbook manager Kevin Bradley said in a news release, via Nick Eaton of SeattlePI.com:

"

We have the line essentially at a pick-'em right now, but we’re seeing a ton of Patriots money which very well could make the Patriots the favorite before it’s all said and done. It’s not surprising as their blowout against Indy is fresh in people’s minds and the Seahawks turnover show did not seem to impress anyone.

"

A pick 'em indicates how torn bettors are between these two powerhouses. It would also be an NFL first, as Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab writes:

"

If the Seahawks and Patriots do end up as a pick 'em, it would be unprecedented. According to VegasInsider.com's history, a Super Bowl betting line has never closed as a pick 'em. San Francisco was favored by just 1 point over Cincinnati in Super Bowl XVI and Miami was favored by a point in Super Bowl VII. Those are the smallest spreads in Super Bowl history.

"

There's no chance Russell Wilson throws four picks in two straight postseason games, especially when you consider that his first six playoff contests (Sunday was his seventh) included nine touchdowns and just one interception. Seattle still posted 28 points against the Green Bay Packers despite the flurry of turnovers. They'll score enough to warrant this bet.

In terms of prop bets, the safest one to make is to choose either quarterback to win Super Bowl MVP. That choice is a matter of preference that should hinge almost entirely on who you select to win the game. Only once has a player from the losing team won the award—Chuck Howley in Super Bowl V.

Choosing a quarterback to win the award is a safe bet. Linebacker Malcolm Smith won last year for the Seahawks, but that was mostly because few players really stood out on the Seahawks.

Ten of the last 16 winners were quarterbacks, including four of the last five.

If you're looking for what should be easy money, then bet on a quarterback. Brady is the safest pick given that the Patriots are favored and should give the Seahawks defense a run for its money.

Prediction: Patriots win, 31-21
