Rivers Reportedly Sent to Clippers in Three-Team Trade
Thursday, Jan. 14
SportsCenter reported Rivers has been traded to the Clippers:
RealGM's Shams Charania reported details on the deal:
Dan Woike of the Orange County Register revealed Chris Douglas-Roberts is also heading to the Celtics, in addition to the players listed in Charania's report.
Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times previously reported the trade could be completed today:
"The Clippers' efforts to acquire guard Austin Rivers from the Celtics appeared to be progressing, with one league source saying a trade could be completed Thursday.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to publicly discuss player movement, said the trade probably would involve some combination of Clippers guard Jordan Farmar and/or forwards Chris Douglas-Roberts and Reggie Bullock.
The Clippers need to relinquish at least $1.8 million in player salary to acquire Rivers, who would become the first NBA player to play for his father.
"
Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald stated on Tuesday that Rivers would be heading to Los Angeles:

Clippers Interested in Rivers?
Monday, Jan. 12
Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix reported that the Los Angeles Clippers are working on a deal that would see Rivers playing with his father, Doc, in L.A.:
ESPN's Marc Stein reported earlier in the day that the Clippers believe they'll get something done within the week:
Rivers was one of three players inactive for the Celtics in their Monday night game against the New Orleans Pelicans, per Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe:
The 22-year-old is averaging 6.8 points on 38.7 percent shooting this year, which is almost in lockstep with his career averages (6.9 PPG, .390 FG%).
It would be interesting to see how he'd fit in with a Clippers team that's in need of bench scoring. Given Rivers' problems offensively throughout his career, he doesn't exactly address that issue.
CBS Sports' Doug Gottlieb also wondered if Doc Rivers trading for his son might create problems in the locker room:
With the team failing to show much improvement from last year, it's clear something needs to change with Los Angeles. Trading for Rivers wouldn't transform the franchise, but it could be the spark necessary to turn things around.
