Jordan Farmar Rumors: Latest Updates and Speculation on Veteran Guard
Los Angeles Clippers point guard Jordan Farmar has reportedly been bought out on Friday, Jan. 16 after the Western Conference contender attempted to trade the veteran guard.
Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports had the report:
Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported the Clippers were attempting to move Farmar via trade:
Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times hinted at this potential development and weighed in on what it would mean for the Clippers:
Farmar is little more than a serviceable role player, but he is a smart decision-maker, is capable of leading a second unit and is a viable three-point shooting threat. His per-36-minute averages in 36 games this season are 11.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.4 steals (h/t Basketball-Reference.com).
Rivers is the son of Clippers coach Doc Rivers and hasn't quite panned out as a 2012 top-10 draft pick. The former Duke star has superior upside and has the versatility to play both guard positions, something Farmar doesn't have.
Based on the links between Doc Rivers, Boston's prior coach before it brought in Brad Stevens, and Celtics general manager Danny Ainge, a deal to land his son would seem to have a decent chance of going down.
